Kokorev Vasiliy Alexandrovich (1817-1889) was a merchant of the first guild, commerce counsellor .

Kokorev was one of the first Russian oilmen. Russia, largely thanks to him, gave 51% of total world oil production by the end of the XIX century.

Kokorev’s activities extended over Moscow, St. Petersburg, Central Russia, the Urals, the Caucasus, Siberia, Persia . . He built a railway in the Ural, established Volgsko-Kamskii bank throughout Russia, advocated the abolition of serfdom and wrote several nonfiction works, including the book "Economic failures".

Kokorev profited and lost millions several times during his life, but kept calm and optimism. He demonstrated high decency in any situation. He paid all his debts without declaring bankruptcy.

One of his sons, Alexander (1848-1908), after the death of his father settled in Tsarskoye Selo . He bought land in Moskovskaya Street in 1901.
