The British celebrate Christmas on the 25
th
of December. Christmas is a religious holiday. The Christmas story comes from the Bible. People celebrate Christmas because of the birth of Jesus Christ.
The Christmas story
Queen Elizabeth II continues the tradition to congratulate people on Christmas. Every year she broadcasts her message on Christmas Day, and it is heard by millions of people all over the world. 
The Queen’s Speech
In the Christian church in Britain, advent starts on the 4
th
 Sunday before Christmas. Four, usually red, advent candles in a circle are placed at the front of the church, with a white candle in the middle. One candle is lit on the first Sunday of advent, two on the second, three on the third and four on the fourth Sunday

The main event is
Christmas Dinner.
Traditionally this is Turkey with Roast potatoes, parsnips, sprouts, cranberry sauce, stuffing and gravy. This is followed by Christmas Pudding, a steamed rich fruit pudding with alcohol. Goose is also a very traditional meat served at Christmas.
