The main architectural goal of the Greeks was the construction of temples. Throughout the life of the historical temples of ancient Greece it retained the same basic type , and later it was assimilated by the Romans. The temples were friendly habitations of humanlike gods like the homes of ordinary people , but more elegant and rich .

Initially, temples were built of wood, but then they were made of stone.Temples stays on the foundation with stairs and have a large number of columns .

Columns.Styles. Columns have played an important role in Greek architecture. They defined the style of the building . There are three main areas of columns : Doric order Ionic order Corinthian order

Doric order . Doriс column is stocky, it hasn't base, foundation. It narrows sharply upward. Approximately 1/3 of the height of the column is swelling ( entasis ) . The upper part of the column has a rectangular plate - abacus . Freese has vertical slats - triglify and square plates, decorated with reliefs.

Ionic order . Thin high columns , they need in the base , because they can not stand on the steps . Capitals of the columns - two spiral curl - volute . It consists of three horizontal stripes . Frieze decorated with relief.
