My Motherland!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our capital of Kalmykia. People call our republic “sunny Kalmykia” because the sun always shines here. The capital of our republic is Elista.

I would like to tell you about interesting sights of Elista. The capital is not so large, but there are many wonderful places to visit. Our temple is the largest in Europe. It is a very beautiful building. It is high and big. You can be lost. There is a big hall in the temple. You can sit there and pray or listen to lamas.

There are a lot of monuments, sculptures, theatres, a museum. I would like to tell you about City Chess. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is president of Chess Federation. He built City Chess in our capital. There is a chess museum in this City. On our Pagoda`s square you can see a very big chess figures. People play chess here. Welcome to play chess in Elista!

And now I would like to tell about my village Iki – Burul. This is a wonderful place. I love my village. The history of my village dates back to nineteen ten. It was formed here because there was a fair in this place. Like many cities, towns, villages Iki – Burul has a lot of sights which reflect the history, special events of this place. You can go sightseeing and be sure that it would be interesting for you.

I would like to begin with our splendid temple. Buddhism is the national religion of Kalmyk people. If you have some problems or may be you are depressed you can go to the temple and sit there a little. In some time you would be distracted from these mean problems.

  There are a plenty of monuments and sculptures in Iki – Burul. The favourite and esteemed by Kalmyk people monument is “The White Old Man”. The White Old Man is considered to be the lord of Universe, of pure sky, and fire. He protects us.

One of the famous monuments in my village is Gorodovikov`s one. Basan Badminovich Gorodovikov was a great General, an outstanding politician leader. He was Hero of the Soviet Union. And at last he founded our region Iki – Burulskiy.

There is a popular monument about soldiers in the park. Many people go to there in memory of our soldiers. The ninth of May is a great Day in our life because our grandfathers defended our Motherland from enemies. You can meet these monuments in every town and village because we respect and remember our soldiers. And you can see eternal fire here.

There are many other marvelous monuments, sights. Welcome to Iki – Burul! It would be interesting and unforgettable for you to visit this wonderful place.
