The wonderful world of stories by R. Dahl

Слайд 2

The good book shines brighter than a star . Books …. I don’t think that we can live without them. I believe that books are with us for all our life. As for me, I like reading English books that is why I have chosen this theme.

Слайд 3

The aim of my project: To show the importance of reading English books To interest students and involve them in this wonderful world of reading. The tasks: To acquaint students with the stories of R. Dahl To acquaint students with the famous English writer R. Dahl To tell students about my favorite book “Matilda” To give useful recommendations.

Слайд 4

The urgency: I think that this theme is very actual, because nowadays teenagers read less and less, especially in English. In my project I want to remind students that reading enrich our mind and make us think.

Слайд 5

In my project I want to tell you about the books of R. Dahl . He was born in the 13 th of September 1916 in the UK. He was a noisy child full of energy. He had three sisters . His father died when he was 4. Later he was sent to English school by his mum. Since that day his school adventures started. Dahl called these years “Days of horrors”. He even wrote an autobiography book which is called “Boy”. Then he continued his education in Oxford school.

Слайд 6

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory It is an exciting story about a little boy who lives with his large family in a small house. They are very poor. Charlie loves chocolate, but gets it only once a year. He dreams about something great and finally his dreams come true! This story teaches us to believe our dreams.

Слайд 7

“James And The Giant Peach”. It is story about little boy whose parents die and his life becomes awful. And only a giant Wonder Peach which grew on a tree and his good friends helped him to realize his dreams .

Слайд 8

MY FAVOURITE BOOK “MATILDA ” Now I want to tell you about my favorite book “Matilda” this is an exciting story about a little but very clever girl who was good at reading and math and had phenomenal abilities. Unfortunately, she had silly and rude parents, who didn’t understand their daughter.

Слайд 9

And only her teacher Ms . Honey could get along with her and became her best friend . So at the end of this story she remains to live with Ms. Honey. I like this story because it’s very funny, on the one hand but it is rather sad on the other hand. But I like it very much .

Слайд 10

After reading this book I knew a lot of new words and expressions: Unimportant business To realize By the age and a half Too sensible To borrow new books Small ratty-looking man To belong To feel danger To argue Stay calm Quite strange Waste of time Robber To do something on purpose To warn

Слайд 11

In conclusion I want to tell that reading is the main source of knowledge. Everybody knows this but, unfortunately, there are many young people who don’t like reading. They say it is not cool but I firmly disagree with them. Books have an ability to take us to another world, to wake up our imagination and transport us to places we have never been to. Books can be different in size and content, their stories can be exciting, scary, or funny but all of them are interesting and broaden our mind. I am absolutely sure that books by a good writer will always be popular, as books by R. Dahl.

Слайд 12

I have made a survey among my classmates and ask them these questions. 1) Do you like reading? 2) How often do you read English books? 3) Who is your favorite author? 4) Have you ever read books by R. Dahl? 5) What genre do you like to read?

The majority of my classmates like reading, but unfortunately, they read not very often, because they are too busy with their homework and some of them are a bit lazy. They don’t remember their favorite authors and nobody read books by R. Dahl

That is why I am sure that my project is very useful. I hope it will inspire my classmates to read these interesting books.
