We are proud of Taganrog theatre In 1827 the town Governor A. I. Dunaev invited the troupe of actors under the direction of Valentin Petrovsky to play on the stage of the town’s theatre. The actors were paid from the fund of Taganrog Duma. The performances were a great success. Comedies, vaudevilles, dramas by N. Gogol, W. Shakespeare and Fr. Schiller were played in the theatre . The audience demanded operas, but the acoustics of the hall was not adapted.

The merchant S.I. Mavro designed the interior after the image of the Milano o pera theatre " La Scala". The repertoire of that time included Giuseppe Verdi, G. Rossini, J. Offenbach, V. Bellini, Mikhail Glinka, Pyotr Tchaikovsky . There had been 2 troupes for 20 years
