А завершили толк шоу обучающиеся любимой песней нашего гостя "I don't want to miss a thing" группы Аэросмит.

Snegurochka is the adopted symbol of our Russian partner city of Kostroma. The Snow Maiden attends all major celebrations in the city and represents Kostroma at major festivals.

Her story is a traditional Russian fairy tale and I am writing to invite your school to take part in a two part project.

In the UK, students from Durham University will read the original version in both Russian and English to our pupils. They will then retell it in English for a Russian audience. I suggest that the pupils act out the story and film it to be uploaded onto a secure platform and shared with Russian school children.

In Russia pupils will already be familiar with the Russian tale but have the task of imagining that Snegurochka was carried away over the sea to England. Their piece of work will be to either script or act and film their story of what happened next to the Snow Maiden.

All films/stories will need to be exchanged by 30 November in order to allow time for children to work on the second part of the story before the Christmas break.

It is hoped that schools may choose to continue to correspond after the story project concludes.

The cost of a filmmaker to come and work with pupils to create their story board and film the story is approximately ….

Snowmaiden in Great Britain

Snow Maiden is a girl who lives in Schelykovo that is in Russia. She has a great dream to go to the UK. She wants to study history, traditions and attractions of this country. Snow Maiden has been dreaming of going to England from childhood. But she can go there only in one way. Only cold north wind can move her to England. Snow Maiden made a wish on New Year and looked forward to the moment when her dream would come true.

One Day in February Snow Maiden was walking through the winter wood. Suddenly the north wind blew, picked her up and carried her to the side of the country-dream.

Snow Maiden couldn't believe in this luck. She closed her eyes for a moment and when she opened them she saw some mist, through which she could see marvelous Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, London Eye. Snow Maiden couldn't believe her eyes. Suddenly Snow Maiden was surrounded by a crowd of kids. They asked her about who she was and where she was from. Snow Maiden told them about her life in Russia and about her great dream which had come true. The kids were delighted by their new friend from another country. They suggested showing her the most beautiful and interesting places in London. Snow Maiden was in delight. They showed her Hyde Park, Oxford University, Wembley Stadium, London Eye, Buckingham Palace and many other interesting places. Snow Maiden was most pleased by visiting Buckingham Palace, where she met with the royal family. She was very happy to meet with Queen Elizabeth.

Also, Snow Maiden met the Queen's grandson. It was Prince Henry of Wales. At first sight Snow Maiden fell in love with him. The next day Prince Henry offered his hand and heart to Snow Maiden. Of course, she agreed. Henry acquainted Snow Maiden with his brother Prince William and brother's wife Catherine Elizabeth Middleton. Later, Snow Maiden met with their son. Snow Maiden became good friends with the Henry's family. And Prince William offered Snow Maiden to become godmother to his son. She was really happy.

Snow Maiden was grateful to the kids who suggested showing her London. She gave them dolls. They were Russian "matreshkas". They are wooden dolls which consists of several dolls which are put into each other and which are the same exactly but different in size. The kids were very happy and surprised to get gifts.

Snow Maiden went to Russia to say goodbye to her Father Frost who is a brother of English Father Christmas. She told him about her new life and about her husband. Father Frost was very happy that his granddaughter realized her dream. Three days later, Snow Maiden returned to London. But she wasn't there for a long time, because she and her husband bought a cottage in Scotland. Snow Maiden is a girl from ice so she must live in a country where the climate is suitable.

SNOW-MAIDEN ADVENTURE

All of us know the end of the story about Snow-Maiden. Well, after she melted she turned into a cloud and walked around the world. The cloud decided to stop in the London. It was frosty winter with uncommon snowstorm and frequent frost. Suddenly, in the middle of winter, it started raining. Nobody had seen that before.  Three days and three nights it was raining. People were amazed at this phenomenon. But then the rain stopped and everything changed for the better. But it wasn’t a simply rain. Snow-Maiden revived from this rain. It was a girl with blue eyes and blonde hair. Snow-Maiden looked back and saw in the distance the dim lights burning.

Snow- Maiden walking forward and saw a small house. She knocked and waiting for somebody to open the door. The door was open by handsome boy Harry with green eyes, curly hair and bright smile. He is eighteen years old. He is a simply boy who goes to college and works in a café. Snow-Maiden began to explain that she found herself in an incredible way and didn’t know where she should go. It’s curious enough that Harry let her enter his house and said what they would decide what to do next morning.  Harry found Snow-Maiden a very beautiful girl.

Next morning Snow-Maiden decided to thank Harry and cooked for him Russian borsch. Harry was surprised because he had never eaten it before. Then he invited her for a walk to see some sights. Actually, it was her dream and she was very thankful to Harry. They went to Trafalgar Square. It is the centre of London. There was Nelson’s column. Originally the area was called the Square of King William IV, and received its present name in honor of England's victory over Napoleon in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Symbol of the Square - a monument to Admiral Horatio Nelson who commanded the British fleet in the Battle of Trafalgar. He was mortally wounded by a French sniper and was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Then they went to Tower Bridge. It is a symbol of London. They saw beautiful landscapes and Snow-Maiden was amazed. This evening ended with a cup of English tea. Snow-Maiden told a lot about Russian culture. She described one of the Russian holidays. It is Maslenitsa. Maslenitsa it is a holiday where Russian people escort winter and meet spring. Traditional attributes of this holiday are blini, scarecrow of the Maslenitsa, fun, sledding and walking. Maslenitsa is celebrated seven days. The main thing of this holiday is burning scarecrow of Maslenitsa which symbolizes the winter. And she said that Harry should try to eat some Russian food like pelmeni and blini.

Week passed, months passed. Snow-Maiden lived at Harry’s house and both understood that they loved each other. Once Harry came to Snow-Maiden and said that he had fallen in love with her. She replied that she loved too. Two months later they got married. And both of them were happy.

A few years later Snow-Maiden gave a birth to two beautiful children. One of them was a girl Ellen and the other was a boy John.

An unforgettable travel to England

Moscow. December. 2 Russian girls Olya, Katya and their girlfriend Snow Maiden wanted to celebrate New Year together. But the circumstances changed. Katya had to go to London to learn English but Olya and Snow Maiden had to go to Kostroma to take photos of children before Christmas. The girls came to the airport but there their passports were confused, so Snow Maiden found herself in London but Katya and Olya remained in Kostroma. Presently Katya had to change her clothes and turn into Snow Maiden so that children didn’t notice any changes.

Snow Maiden didn’t know English. She lived in a host family and she was forced to go to English courses for Russian people.

For the first 2 months she was very shy and she was afraid to talk with people. Fortunately, her hostess Mary knew the Russian language a little so Snow Maiden became more sociable. Also Mary helped Snow Maiden with English. Later Snow Maiden met some people who became her new English friends.

Every day she visited English courses. Six months passed and now Snow Maiden knew English well enough but she continued to study.

Suddenly she realized that all this time while she lived in London she didn’t visit any excursion. “Shame on me!” she said and made the decision to learn London.

Primarily she got interested in Madame Tussaud’s museum. There were figures of many famous people, for example Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Justin Bieber and even Vladimir Putin, but most of her attention was caught by a band of 5 boys. On the back stand there was written «One Direction».

Snow Maiden remembered that Olya had told her about this group. Later the same evening she visited a wonderful café which was called Cinnabon. There she tasted amazing buns and cappuccino.

Then nearly every day Snow Maiden visited different places of England. She visited Big Ben, London Eye, Tower Bridge, Victoria and Albert Museum, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Victoria Station, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, 10 and Durham Castle. All these places Snow Maiden remembered for all her life. They were very beautiful and impressive. She had never seen anything like them. And also one day she was lucky and was able to take a photo with Elizabeth II.

Once in Mary’s house many people gathered for Mary’s Birthday. Snow Maiden knew only some people. Snow Maiden heard a strange talk about Mary’s nephew but she didn’t attach importance to it. Mary’s nephew didn’t come to dinner but he would have to come in the evening. After that wonderful dinner all the guests began to dance. Mary’s cousin turned on the disk of “One Direction”. Before Snow Maiden had already heard some of their songs and was very pleased with them.

After the party Snow Maiden helped to clean Mary’s house. Suddenly she heard a knock on the door and she opened the door. In front of her there was the blonde from the group “One Direction”. Snow Maiden was shocked. “Hi, I’m Niall, I’m Mary’s nephew” he said. “Hello, I’m Snow Maiden” she answered. Mary invited Snow Maiden and Niall to the kitchen to drink tea with a cake. They had a nice talk. After tea Niall invited Snow Maiden to walk with him and she agreed.

Three months passed Snow Maiden and Niall get married. They lived in London and sometimes they visited Russia. In their house there were some fridges to create comfortable cold conditions for Snow Maiden otherwise she would feel awful. They drank only cold tea and ice-cream was their everyday dessert.

Later a year after a year some new-born Snow Maidens appeared. All of them were happy. And also they liked to travel all over the world so much. Then people from many countries learnt this wonderful fairy-tale and invited little Snow Maidens to their countries to work wonders and to make children and adults happy.

Clouds float - not walk, a handsome simple boy? (simple = idiot), an incredible way - I don't understand?, her dream - her ambition, as in Moscow there are no landscapes in London there are too many buildings - sights, sledding - sledging, Sad fact; many couples do not marry in England, And both .... - it is not good to begin a sentence with the word 'and', two beautiful children - beautiful twins, (A boy can be 'beautiful' as a baby, later he will be 'handsome'.)

1-5       2-5       3-4       4-3       5-5       6-4       7-4       8-4       9-5       10-4

Christina Polyanina.

First paragraph is excellent. But - "go to Kostroma to take photos of children" - 'take photos' (carry) with them or 'take photos' (make) with a camera? 'confused' happens in the brain - you mean 'mixed-up' or 'misplaced'? Host families don't force they recommend. Excursion means to travel - use 'places of interest' or 'tourist attractions', One Direction - use "...." not << ..... >>, Cinnabon might be a cafe - cinnamon is the name of the spice (I like cinnamon!!!!!), for all her life - for the rest of her life, There is more chance of me having my photo taken with Vova!,

(Girls should stay away from ice-cream and cold tea!)

Elisaveta Batalova

this country - England or Russia?, the side of her country-dream - to the country of her dreams, Trafalgar Square, London Eye - at the end of a list write 'and' before the final item not a comma, It is not good to write 'kids' - use youngsters, teenagers, or children, Oxford University is not in London, was in delight - was delighted or was very happy, by visiting - to visit, royal family - Royal Family, it is possible for tourists to visit Buckingham Palace but not the private rooms. Henry aquainted - Henry introduced ...... to his, with the Henry's - with Henry's, And ... - don't begin a sentence with 'And'. put into each other - put inside each other, the same exactly - exactly the same, in Scotland. Snow Maiden ... - in Scotland; Snow Maiden is (if the second sentence explains the first you should separate them with a ;  and the two sentences become one longer one), The ending was abrupt.
