Post Visit Report

  1. Summary of visit:

The teacher has established friendly and natural environment, so that SS feel comfortable to speak. There is lots of spontaneous English during the lesson. Mike helps a lot in creating fun and natural environment, and he speaks English very well but the teacher could set boundaries for him because he distracts other SS.

  1. Strengths in instruction and why it is important for overall success:

  1. Pacing is consistent in coverage with all planned lesson components taught. The teacher follows time recommendations in the lesson plan which helps her to have an efficient class where SS stay engaged and don’t have time to distract.
  2. The teacher points to pictures precisely and uses relevant expression and intonation to convey meaning. She notices when SS misunderstand and tries to help SS understand. It will be good if the teacher keeps track of occasions of misinterpretations and has a plan to address them in the coming lessons (for ex., next time the teacher works on the component “Great Round Ball”, she can clarify the expression “how did you get so big and round” by modeling and asking: My hair is long. How did it get so long? – I didn’t cut it; Mike’s hair is short. How did it get so short? – he cut it. For the next class the teacher can think of other examples).

  1. Growth areas and why it is important for overall success:

  1. The teacher listens for pronunciation/errors and models correct response to prevent errors from reoccurring. She can take a step further and help SS self-correct. For ex., when a boy reads “Apples” poem with mistakes, the teacher can go back, point out the words and ask him again or ask other SS for help. Or another student said “lot of apples”. The teacher can ask all SS: Do we say “lot of apples”? If nobody gives a correct answer, the teacher can model herself. This way instead of giving SS the right answer right away, she will encourage their thinking and analyzing.
  2. During REP class the teacher utilizes only some instructional modules. During Middle Cycle there is not so much variety but during the End Cycle there are lots of different modules. So the teacher should get familiar with them all to have engaging and efficient time during REP as well.

  1. Next Steps:
  1. The teacher will give students a chance to correct their own mistakes.
  2. The teacher will read through the REP Implementation Guide and use different modules during REP time. She can find this Guide on GrapeSEED portal in her account on “Teacher Resources” page.
  3. The teacher will send video recording of another class by the 15th of November for self and Coach analysis. She will also fill in the Self-reflection form and send it together with the video.
