Последовательность работы над текстом при переводе с английского языка на русский.

        Прочитывается весь текст.

1. Текст размечается, выделяются непонятные термины и словосочетания. Их значения желательно раскрыть до перевода с учетом контекста. Выделяются цеховые   и   жаргонные   выражения,   а   также   сокращения,    подлежащие  выяснению.
2. После этого делается полный перевод в письменном виде.
3. Текст   перевода   просматривается,   по   возможности   через   2-3   дня   после окончания   работы,   и   освобождается   от   несвойственных   русскому   языку  оборотов и терминов.

Некоторые предпочитают сделать сначала весь перевод, оставляя трудные места и слова для последующего выяснения. Это позволяет ускорить перевод и облегчить работу.

В заключении мы должны напомнить, что какого-либо правила или ряда правил, знание которых обеспечило бы успешный перевод английских технических текстов, не существует. Помощники переводчика - словари, справочники, специальные пособия и трудолюбие. Это и обеспечивает хорошее качество перевода и рост квалификации.

My name is Helen. I work in a restaurant in the city centre. We offer traditional Russian cuisine, so our restaurant is very popular with foreigners. It is always full and people usually reserve tables in advance for a special occasion party or for the weekend. Our restaurant opens at 10 o'clock and works till the last guest. I have a break from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. but the restaurant continues working. I get up early, at 7 o'clock, and as I live far from the centre, I travel to work by underground. So it takes me an hour. The waiters work in shifts. The morning shift starts at 9. I usually work in the morning. We serve about 200 meals a day. By the evening I am usually very tired. So when I come home I just relax, chat on the phone, do some work about the house and go to bed at 11 o'clock.

When people staying in a hotel are hungry or just want to relax and have good time listening to music and having a drink, they go to a restaurant or a bar. There is usually a wide choice of beverages there to please everyone. A barman or a wine waiter offers the wine list where the guests can find any drink they like. For those who don't drink alcohol there are soft (or long) drinks such as juice, lemonade, Coke, mineral water — still or fizzy. Beer is very popular and it can be served bottled, draught or canned. For people who want something stronger there is a great variety of alcoholic (or short) drinks. For example, spirits: rum, vodka, whisky, brandy, cognac. Then come fortified wines: liqueur, port, sherry, vermouth; and table wines dry or sweet, white, red or rose. Guests can also order a cup of tea; coffee, black or white, hot chocolate.

Using the menu, take the order for the whole dinner. Give recommendations. Apologize if you don't have a dish and offer another. Don't forget to confirm the order and be polite.

5 Make up a dialogue

A person wants to reserve a table in your restaurant, but the line is very bad. Try to find out all the details: day, time, number of persons, name and contact number.

Последовательность работы со словарем.

Каждый словарь имеет свой порядок построения, свою систему условных обозначений и сокращений, которые объясняются в предисловии к словарю. Части речи в словарях, как правило, обозначаются сокращенно латинскими буквами. Только после того, как определена грамматическая функция слова и установлено, какой частью речи оно является, можно отыскивать его значение. Слова в словаре расположены в строго алфавитном порядке. Поэтому для пользования словарем нужно твердо знать порядок букв, принятый в английском алфавите. Слово следует отыскивать не только по первой букве слова, но и по всем его последующим буквам. В верхнем углу каждого столбца даются три индексные буквы, по которым легче определить, следует ли искать слово на данной странице. Например, слово surface находится на странице, имеющей индексные буквы sur.Слова в словаре даются в их исходной форме: для имени существительного -общий (именительный) падеж единственного числа; для прилагательного и наречия - положительная степень; для глагола - неопределенная форма (инфинитив).Исходную форму слова мы устанавливаем, отбрасывая его грамматическое окончание. Если в словаре не дается значения слова, которое подходило бы к данному контексту, следует самостоятельно подобрать такое русское слово, которое наиболее отвечало бы общей мысли переводимого предложения, характеру текста и стилю русской речи.
