As for me, I’ve been working as a teacher for 24 years. The aim of my pedagogical activity is developing the basis of the linguistic and the speech competence. I’m a teacher of primary school and working at my daily planning I should think of its variety and flexibility. Variety means involving pupils in a number of different types of activities and flexibility comes when the teacher has to change the plan in particular situation. So, I try to

  • plan and organize interesting activities for the children;
  • use the language constructer which consists of different flash cards, word-cards and schemes every lesson;
  • speak in a more attractive way manipulating my own voice (articulation, intonation, volume, speed);
  • prepare more then I need, because it’s advisable to prepare an easy activity, ready in case of extra time;
  • use different types of projects for consolidation and generalization of learning material.

One more goal I achieve in my pedagogical activity is to bring up the pupils by means of learning foreign language and foreign culture. I consider that the process of upbringing consists of educational surroundings, educational activity and the pupils’ comprehension of life. From my point of view educational surroundings include object surroundings, eventful surroundings, social behaviour surroundings and information surroundings. The principles my upbringing system is based on define the relations between the teacher and the pupils and make necessary conditions for the development of the pupils’ creative potential through the process of learning foreign culture. As for this upbringing technology it consists of the three stages. They are diagnosing, organizing communication and organizing interaction. In the frames of this technology I use different methods of teaching which help to achieve good results.

         I’ve got rich pedagogical experience. As for working with young learners, I have been working as a teacher of English in primary school for the last 12 years. And I like it very much.

         I think that it’s a very important period of studying English as a foreign language for children. And the main task for me is not only to teach them how to read, write and speak elementary English, but also make them like the process of learning the language. That’s why I try to make my lessons memorable. I’m sure, that such lessons can make difficult matter more understandable and memorable as well. They also set up a win-win situation and let my students believe in their abilities. To achieve my goals, I always try to make my lessons unusual and exciting. I offer children unexpected activity to burn their interest. We play a lot. I think it’s the best way of teaching young children. During the games my students move around the class, use different objects for example, a ball, a dice, a fishing rod, a swatter, a basket and so on, work with flash-cards and word constructor which consists of word-cards, coloured cards with word combinations and even sentences for different purposes. “Language constructor” is my great idea how to make my students remember spelling of the words and correct forms of the English sentences. I think it works because according to psychological and age particularities most young children learn the words and grammar structures better if they touch and feel them. More over their figurative memory is not so developed as the memory of teenagers or adults and they always need prompts to be confident. But it’s not the only difference between teaching kids and adults. Adults usually realize the necessity of learning foreign language, can organize themselves and be consecutive achieving their goals. As for young children, they always idealize everything because they don’t have enough life experience, they also can’t focus their attention for a long time, get tired quickly and distract each other in the class, so it’s very important to remember “the more interesting the lesson is, the better results you’ll get”. So, it’s necessary to change different types of activity during the lesson and do everything you can to excite interest and creativity from the children. I think, my  techniques and tricks help me to achieve my goals and get good results of teaching young students.

         Here are some of my secrets how to get back children’s attention:

  • Sometimes we’ve got a guest at the lesson. It can be a toy or a doll or even real familiar person who has left a message with a task or a secret word which the children can guess doing something.
  • My students usually make dialogues throwing the ball to each other. They become very concentrative at this moment because they are waiting for the ball and thinking about response at the same time.
  • Different games such as “Step forward, step back” or “Crosses and naughts” focus children’s attention for some period as well.
  • My students like to make or correct sentences using the word constructor. At that moment they all are ready to present their variant and look after the answering person very attentively.
  • “Fishing” and “Killing flies with swatter” are my favourite games because I can use them in different situations with different grammar and vocabulary material. And children always do such kind of tasks with pleasure because it’s fun and they’ve got choice.

I think it’s not difficult to be creative if you love your job and your students.
