SYDNEY

Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, lies on the three bays: Port Jackson, Botany Bay, and Port Hacking Bay. It is not only the biggest but also the oldest city in Australia- it was founded in 1788 as a British colony for prisoners. Expansion increased rapidly during the second half of the 19th century as more and more settlers arrived looking for gold.

Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its art galleries, parks, beaches, super shops, spectacular harbour, fantastic weather ( over 340 sunny days per year), and friendly atmosphere all make Sydney truly unforgettable. If  you are interested in the culture of Australia's indigenous people you can visit the Australian Museum. For those who likes lying in the sun there is Bondi Beach- the most famous Australian beach, which is always packed with both tourists and the local inhabitants.

There are two places in Sydney which are a must during any sightseeing tour: Darling Harbour and the Sydney Opera House. Darling Harbour is only a few minutes from the city centre and is the main tourist attraction. It is a place for everyone, full of parks, cafes and shops, where you can also visit the Sydney Aquarium and the Australian National Maritime Museum.

The Sydney Opera House, on the other hand, is a real symbol of the city, which appears on most postcards and photographs taken here.
