Begining.

1. Warming – up activity.

Teacher: Hello, boys and girls!

I am glad to see you. Today we have an unusual lesson

because we have many guests. Let us start our lesson.

Look at the pictures. What country we are going to

               speak about?

               ( watching pictures using computer)

Student: In my mind, we are going to speak about Canada.

Teacher: You are right.

Give me your reasons why we are going to speak

               about.

Student: I think it is one of the largest English – speaking

countries in the world. It is worth visiting.

Student: In my mind Canada has a rich history which we should

              know.

Student: As for me it is important to know the culture of other

country. It is the first step to understand each other.

Student: I have heard that the life standard in Canada is very

high, that’s why learning Canada we can take a lot of

              useful information.

Teacher: I agree with you. Canada is one of the largest countries

in the world. It is situated in North America. The

French and the British explored Canada in the 16 th and

17 th  century. In 1840 several provinces formed

Canada. Then more and more provinces joined the

country. The last of them was Newfoundland in 1949.

Teacher: Today we’ll describe Canada and discuss what we

know about it. The title of our lesson is “Canada – a

               land of diversity”.

               The main questions are:

  1. What do you know about Canada?
  2. Where would you like to visit in Canada?
  3. What things would you like to visit?
  4. Why do you think Canada might be a good place to visit?

( The questions are on the screen)

                            Follow – up.

Activity 1.

Teacher: Well, first of all we are going to check how you know

Canada. Let us answer my questions.

  1. Where is Canada situated?
  2. What is the capital of Canada?
  3. What are the official languages of Canada?
  4. What is the symbol of Canada?
  5. Who is the head of the state?
  6. Who are the native people of Canada?
  7. How many provinces are there in Canada?
  8. What is the longest river in Canada?

( The questions are on the screen)

Activity 2

Teacher: If you know some facts you can do a crossword and

answer the question what does the word Canada mean.

  1. Canada’s third largest city.
  2. One of the official languages of Canada.
  3. The month when Canadian public holiday is celebrated.
  4. The leaf of this tree is a symbol of Canada.
  5. The highest mountain in Canada.
  6. The 1988 Olympic Games were held in this city.
  7. The most popular sport in Canada.

( The crossword is on the screen)

Teacher: Which word we’ve got?

You are right. The word  is ‘village’.The name

‘Canada’ comes from an Iroquois word meaning

              ‘village’.

But what do you think about this fact?

Student: The word ‘village’ means a place in the country with a

few homes. I think native people of Canada had no big

cities. Before populating Canada by immigrants Indians

had lived in the villages quietly.

Student: I agree with ‘S’. I think the territorium of Canada was

full of forests and animals. Indians lived without wars.

They knew each other as in a big village and were

              friendly.

Teacher: Iagree with you. In ancient time the territorium of

future Canada was empty. Only native people lived

there, that’s why this area was named ‘Canada’ or

‘village’.But to our time the Canadian love their

country and their symbols prove this fact.

What symbols of Canada do you know? What do you

imagine when you think of Canada?

Students: When I think of Canada I imagine ...

Activity2.

Teacher: Well. Look at the descriptions of the symbols of

Canada and match with the pictures.

( The texts are on the screen )

The possible answers of the students ( after reading the texts ):

The first text is associated with the ... picture.

The second text is connected with the ... picture.

The third text makes me think of ... picture.

Activity3.

Teacher: I think if the country has the Beaver as the symbol, it is

the perfect country. But we’ll continue our speaking

about Canada and try to prove that Canada is worth

seeing and it might be a good place for visiting.

We are going to check up your projects which will be

                 shown as a role-play. I think we’ll enjoy them.

( The children of the first group demonstrate their project.

After that the second group presents its project.)

Teacher: Your projects were interesting but I would like to listen

               to your opinions about.

The leader of the first group gives a conclusion about the project of the second group. The leader of the second group expresses the opinion about the project of the first group.

Activity 4.

Teacher: In the end of the lesson we would like to make a

conclusion. Look at the pictures of Canada ones more

and remember the questions of our lesson. Give your

               arguments.

Students give their reasons about visiting Canada.

                         Rounding – off.

1. Summary of the lesson.

Teacher: Thank you boys and girls for your work, for your

active participation. It was very pleasant for me to

listen to all your opinions. I wish you success.
