Разработка урока по теме

«Языки программирования.  Условные предложения II типа»

The aims:

  • to develop speaking and reading skills on the topic;
  • to introduce the way to form the sentences of unreal condition and to automatize their usage;
  • to develop the ability of working in groups, to express one’s point of view, to find a solution  the problem;
  • to develop interest to the future profession.

The course of the lesson

I. Greetings. The plan

- Good day. You see we have guests at our lesson. I want you to show all your abilities, your knowledge of English. Be active and speak louder.

- Today we are studying conditional sentences and speaking about different programming languages.

II. Warming up

  • Today I want to start our lesson with the poem. Let’s read and translate.

If many men knew

What many men know,

If many men went

Where many men go,

If many men did

What many men do,

The world would be better.

I think so – don’t you?

  • Do you agree with the author?
  • OK.

III. Development of grammar skills

a) introducing new grammar rules

  • Now I want you to comment on the forms of the verbs in this poem.
  • What kind of sentences are they? What do they denote?
  • Это условные предложения 2 типа, которые выражают нереальные условия и действия, которые относятся либо к настоящему, либо к будущему.
  • Давайте запишем схему этих предложений.

b) doing training exercises

1) - Now let’s study some examples. Read the sentences comment on the forms and translate them.

  1. If you studied harder, you would get better marks.
  2. If they asked me, I would help them.
  3. If she came, we would have tea with a cake.
  4. If Mary called me, I would be happy.
  5. If it were summer now, we would go to the beach.
  6. If she invited me to the cinema, I would certainly go.
  7. If the rain stopped, we would go for a walk.

- OK, that’s good.

2) - Now you are to work in groups of 4 and to find a solution to the problems.

1st group

1. You found a valuable piece of jewelry on a park bench.

2. You won a lot of money in a lottery.

3. You saw two people fighting in the street.

2nd group

1. You discovered your friend had a drinking problem.

2. Someone stole your clothes on the beach while you were swimming.

3. You were on vacation overseas and lost all your money and credit cards.

- So, let’s see what you’ve got. The 1st group. The second group.

3) – Now you will work on your own. You will take a card with words and word-combinations. You are to make up a conditional sentence using these words.

4) – Now, let’s return to the poem and I want you to give your ideas about a better world.

Complete the sentence: The world would be better if ….

IV. Development of speaking skills

1) A guessing game

- We’ve studied several programming languages at our previous lessons. Let’s recollect everything and I’ll see how well you know them.

- First of all, I want you to guess these languages by their code and algorithms. Look at the slides. (слайды с картинками языков программирования)

- O.K. I see that your knowledge of programming is good.

2) Matching the definitions

- The next task for you. You have the definitions and characteristics of programming languages. You are to give their names. Write them down in the table.

1.

A. It is a procedural programming language. It was named after a French mathematician and philosopher.

2.

B. It is an extension of the C language.  It supports procedural programming, generic programming, object-oriented programming, and data abstraction.

3.

C. It is a business-oriented language and it has been heavily used by businesses since its inception in 1959.

4.

D. It is the first important algorithmic language.  It has subprograms for common mathematical operations.

5.

E. It was designed with the intent of giving the non-science people an access to computers.

6.

F. It is the most prominent markup language that is used for web pages.

7.

G. It is a business-oriented language and is referred to as “quick and dirty”.

- O.K. Let’s check. Read the first definition and name the language.

V. Summing up

- Now, I want you to express your opinion about the usage of these programming languages. Answer my questions:

1. Which of these languages are more popular among programmers?

2. Which do you find very specialized?

3. Which are too old-fashioned?

4. Which do you prefer to work with?

- Your home task will be to learn the scheme of Conditional II.
