1) Introduction

The teacher greets the students and introduces the topic of  the lesson.

2) Ice-breaker

Students say their names and finish the sentence:  If I were an animal, I would be… and compare themselves to some animal, bird or fish.

For example: My name is Nikita and if I were an animal I would be a lion.

3) Class Survey

The students look at the Eastern Horoscope Calendar  (at the screen) and find their animal according to their birthday. Then they stand up and try to find people that have the same animal sign. When they find them, they sit together in a group and discuss what the horoscope says about them. They decide if it is true or not for them.

Feedback may be varied:

If there are 4-5 groups of students, every group may report separately, answering if the horoscope is true for them or not.

If there are more than 5 groups of students the teacher may ask: “Who completely disagrees with this horoscope?

Who agrees completely with the horoscope?”

Presumably most students would be in the middle between agreeing and disagreeing so the teacher tells them: “Let’s agree to disagree.”

4) Crossword about Animals

In pairs, students solve the crossword puzzle about animals. Check all together.

5) Listening.

Students scan the questions, ask the teacher if they have any difficulties understanding the questions; listen to the text and answer the questions.

They also pay attention to the figures in the text and explain what they signify. Check the answers all together.

6) Guessing Game.

Part 1. Look at  the screen. Name the animals you see. (Teacher helps the students with the correct spelling of the animals’ names).

Part 2. The students are divided in groups of 3.

In each group, all students take turns and describe some animal that they choose from the pictures on the screen.

The other students listen and try to guess what animal is being described. After everyone in the group has described some animal, the one who guesses the described animal correctly is the next one to describe his\her picture.

7) Brain Ring.

The students are divided into 4 groups (the teacher may count for example: cats / mice / wolves / rabbits; or ask 4 brave people to come up who will be the leaders of the teams and ask all the other students to join any captain they want). Every group discusses the questions they have.

After that, every group receives a clean sheet of A4 paper where they write their answers. The teacher collects the answers and puts them in front of him\her. The students read the questions one by one, give their answers, the teacher gives the correct answer and gives the score – 5 points for the correct answer to the questions 1-5; 10 points for the correct answer to the questions 6-15. Count the scores, congratulate the winners by giving them a big hand.

11) Summing Up, hometask.

Question/answer time.

Make a presentation about animal symbolised your character and tell about your choice describing your personal features.
