1. Орг момент

Good afternoon, boys and girls. How are you? I'm glad to see you. Today we`re going to talk about the world of professions. You will do some lexical exercises to improve your speech. The aim of the lesson is to think about and to decide what professions are connected with the English language and at the same time suit a student from the point of view of his abilities and individual traits of character.  Let’s start.

2.         Речевая  зарядка

T: Look at the screen, please.

Listen to me, read the poem and translate it into Russian! .

I Want to Ве
Some people often say to mе:
"Have уоu decided what уоu want to bе?"
I usually answer, "I don't know,"
But it isn't really so.
I want to win аn Olympic race,
I want to see the Earth from space,
I want to travel to Katmandu
I want to bе rich and famous, too.
I want to bе оn Hollywood's screen,
I want to invent а new machine,
I want to bе very clever and wise,
I want to win the Nobel prize.

T: How do you think? What is the poem about?

S.: It’s about one person who doesn’t know what profession to choose.

T.:  Well, that’s right.

        3. Автоматизация рлн

T: This school year you are graduatig from the 9th form. Many of  you are leaving school. What  do  you  want  to  be  after  graduating? You  have  heard  this  question  a lot of times  during  your  school  year. Perhaps, it  was  difficult  for  you  to  give  a  definite  answer  earlier. But  you  understand  that  the  time  to  choose  your  future  profession  has  already come.

(слайд) Centuries  ago  there  were  only  a  few  jobs: people  were  farmers, bakers, butchers  and  carpenters.

Nowadays there are a lot of different intresting professions.

Do you know them?

S: a doctor, a teacher, a manager, an acountant, a translator/ an interpreter, a psychologis, a journalist, a lawyer, a computer programmer, an ecologist, a guide, linguist etc.

Look at the screen, please.  (схема - профессии)

Now it`s time for a guessing-game “What profession is it?” I`ll describe you a profession and you will give me the word.

Here are some more professions: a teacher, a journalist, an architect, a fashion designer, a manager, an accountant, a programmer, a  linguist, a car mechanics, a physicist, an  interpreter, a guide.

T: Listen to the definition of professions, try to guess and name them.

  1. someone who can count well and keeps the money records of a business
  2. someone who designs clothes
  3. someone who writes computer programs
  4. someone who repairs cars
  5. someone who
  6. someone who teaches children
  7. someone whose job is to design buildings
  8. someone whose job is to learn and to know much about the language
  9. someone whose job is to manage a company
  10. someone who studies or works in physics
  11. someone who translates oral into other language
  12.  someone who writes articles
  13. someone who can count well and keeps the money records of a business

T: Tell me please why some of these words are typed red.

S: They are connected with the language.

T:  It can be not only English but also any other one.

They are: a teacher

             a programmer

             a linguist

             a guide

             an interpreter

4. Работа с текстом

Some days ago I received letters from my former students Elinor Loktina and Kirill Mitugin. I would like you to read these letters and then answer my questions.

The unknown  words are after the letters.

Kirill Mityugin

Hello, I am Kirill Mityugin. . I graduated from Neryungri Technical High School  and now work as a computer programmer in a large Moscow company. The company has clients not only in Russia but in other countries as well.  It is me who unites all the company computers in the local net and secures their proper functioning. It’s very interesting and creative work. I communicate with many people both in our company and abroad. So I must perfectly know the technical characteristics of all the computer systems, be ready to eliminate some defects and troubles in the system. I have to read articles, certificates and documents in English, send e-mails and communicate with my colleagues. So knowledge of English helps me to do my work  properly.

Hello, friends!

I am Ira Gueva. Now I’m 20 years old and I’m a third-year student of the faculty of foreign languages at the Orel State University. My future profession deals with linguistic science. I love studying! Now I can’t imagine myself without languages.  At school I studied English, but now I’m studying English, German and Chinese. I think studying languages is very interesting. The more I learn the more I understand different cultures and traditions and compare them with Russian ones.

I think every person should know any foreign language in order to communicate people while travelling, to read books in the original languages for better understanding the cultures of the nations. I have never regretted entering this profession!

Answer my questions!

  1. What are the young people?
  2. Why does Kirill need the knowledge of foreign languages?
  3.  What does he do in English?
  4.  What languages is Ira studying now?
  5. What does she understand the more she studies?
  6. Why should  every person  know any foreign language?

        5. Введение нле и первичная автоматизация рлн

T: Now look at the board

There is a list of adjectives.

Sociable, creative, patient, brave, polite, active, attentive, confident , determined, fair, talkative, imaginative, responsible, cooperative, tolerant, understanding, careful, courageous, intelligent, flexible, sociable, tactful, temperate, curious, energetic, accurate

Listen to me! Repeat after me! Read the words!

Translate either into Russian or into English!

Choose what qualities are required for these professions.

                a teacher

             a programmer

             a linguist

             a guide

             an interpreter

S заполняют таблицу.

T: Well, finish my phrase, please:

  • a good teacher should be....
  • a good guide should be...
  • a good interpreter should be ...
  • a good linguist should be ...
  • a good programmer should be ...

T: What profession would you choose? And why? So I start. I am a teacher  because  I'm sociable, patient, polite, intelligent, tactful, understanding. What about you? what would you be?

S: I would be a programmer because I'm patient  not very sociable.

S: I could be a teacher because I'm ..........

5. Заключительный этап

T: Now let's draw some conclusions!

        - What professions do you like and why?

        - Have you already chosen your  future profession?

        - Who can (and wants) connect his or her profession with the foreign language?

Now I suppose you to give the marks for our lesson. If it was useful for you, leave the red square on your desk, if not - then the blue one. if you don't know - the green one.

I ask to do the same our guests.

Thank you for your attention.

See you on Wednesday.

Good buy.
