Цели урока.

Образовательная: ознакомить учащихся с фактами, касающихся биографии шотландского писателя Р.Л. Стивенсона; расширять кругозор учащихся;

Развивающая: развивать произносительные навыки, умение использовать активную лексику при составлении самостоятельных высказываний и диалогов;

Практическая: развивать умения по всем видам речевой деятельности (аудирование, разговорная речь, чтение, письмо).

Оборудование: компьютер, интерактивная доска (IWB),слайды с изображением людей разных профессий и портретами писателей, CD проигрыватель, диск, карточки с вопросами.

1. Greetings.
T: Good morning, dear boys and girls! I’m very glad to see you. How are you?
2. Introduction.
The topic of our previous lesson was “Forever Famous”. And we started to speak about famous people; today we’ll continue doing it. I’d like you to read aloud these sentences, say what these people are and write it on an interactive board.

3. Warm up activity (reading and writing).

1) A person who performs at the theatre on TV, etc.       (Actor)

2) A person who works on a ship.                                      (Sailor)

3) A person who gives us advice about the law.                  (Lawyer)

4) A person who paints pictures.                                       (Artist)

5) A person who writes or plays music.                             (Musician)

6) A person who writes stories.                                                  (Writer)

T: Thank you, well done. By the way, do you know any people of these professions?

Ss: Yes, we do.

T: What famous actors do you know?
    Do you know any famous artists?
    What famous writers can you name?

Ss: ...
    Robert Louise Stevenson.

T.-Would you like to know more about this writer? Then let’s read the text about him. Before reading the text we’ll study the pronunciation of some proper names:
          Robert Louise Stevenson
          Dr. Jekyll
          Fanny Osborne
          Samoa Islands

  1. Reading.
    T: And now let’s start reading the text about the famous Scottish writer and then you’ll fill in the gaps.

                                                TEXT.

Robert Louise Stevenson was a famous Scottish writer. He was the person who created characters such as Dr.Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and Long John Silver. People all over the world, young and old, still read his popular stories.

Robert Louise Stevenson was bom in Edinburgh in 1850. As a child, he was often ill in bed, so he read a lot of books. He loved reading stories and began writing when he was quite young. Stevenson studied at Edinburgh University. His father wanted him to be an engineer, but Stevenson didn't like the idea. Instead, he agreed to become a lawyer.

In 1880, Stevenson married an American woman, Fanny Osbourne. Together they traveled to many different countries! Finally, in 1890, they decided to live on the islands of Samoa. Some of Stevenson’s greatest stories are “Treasure Island”, “Kidnapped”, and “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”.

Robert Louise Stevenson died in 1894, at the age of 44. He died young, but he left behind his wonderful stories for us to remember him by!

T: Thank you, everyone. And now, I want you to answer some questions on the text.

Ss: No, he couldn’t

T: And what about you, what could you do when you were small?

Ss: -Could you read when you were five?                 -Yes, I could

-Could you write when you were two?                      -No, I couldn’t.

T: Let’s work in pairs. Ask and answer what could you do when you were small.
