«The Chinese New Year»

(Китайский Новый год)

Тема: «The Chinese New Year» (Китайский Новый год).

Цели:

          - познакомить обучающихся с творчеством английской писательницы Джоанны Троутон и историей китайского Нового года; повторить грамматические структуры и правила интонационного оформления речи в ходе разыгрывания сценки;

          - развить умение самостоятельного поиска информации в процессе подготовки к мероприятию, развить творческую активность обучающихся;

         - воспитать уважение к чужой культуре и интерес к изучению мировой культуры в ходе знакомства с произведением зарубежного автора.

Оборудование: книга «The Chinese New Year», иллюстрации по теме «Китайский Новый год», маски животных для инсценировки сказки, костюмы, проектор.

Ход мероприятия.

1. Оргмомент.

Teacher: Good morning, children! I’m glad to see you.  As you know, today we’ll speak about the Chinese New Year and its history.  First listen to our Chinese guests, who know all about it. (История китайского Нового года. Выступление учеников с иллюстрациями).

         The Chinese New Year is one of the many colourful events celebrated in our multicultural calendar and you are no doubt familiar, for example, with the Year of the Ox (2009) and the Year of the Tiger (2010). But do you know the story of the Chinese New Year and how the years got named after animals?

          The  Chinese New Year  is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays (слайд 2,3,4 презентация). It is an all East and South-East-Asia celebration. In China it is known as "Spring Festival." It marks the end of the winter season, analogous to the Western carnival. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual dinner, is known as "Eve of the Passing Year."

             The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with  Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Tibet, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbours, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations.

           Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "happiness", "wealth". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include  pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is to  wish peace and happiness for everyone.

II.  Знакомство с писательницей Джоанной Троутон.

Teacher:  Now, children, let’s meet a popular British writer and illustrator Joanna Troughton. (Ученик рассказывает о жизни и творчестве писательницы от 1 лица).

  Pupil:      I was born in London, and have lived there ever since. When I was 17 years old I went to Hornsey College of Art for five years, leaving with a first class degree. I  became a freelance illustrator, and had my first picture book published in 1971 when I was 22 - THE LITTLE MOHEE, an American folk song.

        I   love t raditional   stories   of  all  kinds   and  from  any  country  throughout the world.        Ideas for my picture books have come from myths, legends, folk tales, fairy stories, folk songs and poetry.
Over the past 40 years I have worked on my own series of picture books - FOLK TALES OF THE WORLD, which I wrote and illustrated (слайд 5 презентация). The BBC and Channel 4 have made three of these books into short animated films for Children's TV- WHAT MADE TIDDALIK LAUGH, TORTOISES' DREAM and THE TIGER CHILD. I have illustrated books for many other authors: Kevin Crossley-Holland, Geoffrey Trease, James Reeves, Adel Geras, Jamila Gavin, and Robert Nye. I also worked for BBC TV, illustrating for JACKANORY.

         I taught illustration at Harrow, Barnet, West Herts and Croydon Colleges of Art.   I   have   visited   schools   and  libraries  all   over Britain,  to   give  talks

about   my   work, as  well  as   being  a  writer  in    residence  for  a  few of those schools.    For   the  last three years  I  worked  as  a  part  time  teaching   assistant, helping children who are new to English.

3. Инсценировка художественного произведения.

Teacher: Now, children, let’s go to China (учащиеся играют роли героев произведения: рассказчик, король, принцесса, 12 животных).

          The  Chinese New Year.

Long ago in China, there lived twelve animals. There was a rat,  an  ox, tiger, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake, a horse, a ram, a monkey, a  rooster, a dog and a pig.
        When the old year was coming to an end, all the  animals   began to quarrel noisily. Each one wanted the New Year to be named  after it.

The animals made such a noise that even  the  king  heard the  quarrel from far away.

       The king had a clever daughter. She a sked the animals  why  they were quarrelling.

“Why are you quarrelling?”
"I want to have the New Year named after me", said the tiger.
"Me too", said the rat.
"Me too", said the ox.
"Me too", said the rabbit.
"Me too", said the dragon.
"Me too", said the snake.
"Me too", said the horse.
"Me too", said the ram.
"Me too", said the monkey.
"Me too", said the rooster.
"Me too", said the dog.
'Me too", said the pig.
The princess said, “We shall have a swimming race across  this  river. The winner will be named after the New Year”.
The animals agreed. They lined up on the bank of the river.

"One, two three, go!" shouted the princess.
All the animals jumped into the   river   and   began   to   swim   to   the opposite bank. Very soon the ox was in the lead. But he didn't see the crafty rat who climbed up his tail and onto his back.
        When the ox was near the bank, the rat ran  along the  ox's  head   and jumped onto the grass.    

"I am the winner!"   said the rat.  

"Well done", said the king.   "The New Year will   be named   the  Year  of  the  Rat".
         The princess felt sorry  for  the  other  animals  as,  one  by  one,  they finished the race.

     "The next eleven years can be named after the other animals", she said.

       And so the order is, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
