 Scotland

Цели:

Обучающие: расширение общего и страноведческого кругозора учащихся; обобщение знаний о Шотландии;

Развивающие: развитие речи учащихся, обогащение и   усложнение словарного запаса; усиление коммуникативных свойств  речи; развитие мышления и памяти; развитие интереса к изучению английского языка;

Воспитательные: воспитание нравственности, воспитание уважения к иноязычной                культуре; поддержание мотивации к овладению иностранным языком в целом.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

Good afternoon, my friends. I’m very glad to see you, sit down, please!

What date is it today? –Ответ учащихся

Right you are! Today is the 30th of November. St. Andrew’s day. It is celebrated as the Scottish National Day. (слайд № 3)

Today, we shall speak about the best country in the world. A lot of people all over the world are fond of traveling. Modern life is impossible without it.

2. Речевая разминка.

Do you like to travel? –ответ учащихся

Have you ever been to Scotland? – Ответ учащихся

Well done, thank you.

How can people travel? – Ответ учащихся (слайд № 4)

And now, let’s begin our travelling. We are flying from Millerovo to Scotland! Make comfortable yourself! Look, we are already in Scotland! (слайд № 5,6 )

3. Основная часть урока.

Scotland is a free and wild country. Scotland is a land of mountains, green valleys, legends and ancient castles. There are many places of interest that can tell us a lot about Scotland and its capital. They make Scotland beautiful and romantic. (слайд № 7,8)

Studying a country we usually begin with its geographical situation.

  Scotland is a country in the United Kingdom to the north of England. It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. The country is divided into the Highlands and the Lowlands. Its capital is Edinburgh. (слайд № 9)

What else do you know about Scotland? Answer my questions.

What is the symbol of Scotland?

Its symbol is a thistle. (слайд № 10)

That’s a rule that every country has its own flag. The flag of Scotland is called St Andrew’s cross. (слайд № 11)

The flag of Scotland is a white cross from corner to corner on a blue field.  The flag of Scotland is one of the oldest flags in the world.

So, we’ve heard about some Scottish traditions and their national clothes. What is their national clothes’ name? – ответ учащихся

Really, only people, who lived beside hills, wore a kilt. Highlanders wore a kilt. Mainly because, it was a comfortable. (слайд № 12)

How do they call their national musical instruments? – ответ учащихся

 The most important musical instrument of Scots is a unique bagpipe. (слайд №13)

Its sounds spread fairways to two miles around. Bagpipe music is the most exciting in the world. Not everyone likes the way bagpipes sound. Let’s listen to it. (Звучат звуки волынки). (слайд № 14)

Many valleys between the hills are filled with lakes, called lochs. Loch Lomond is the largest and the most beautiful of all the lochs in Scotland. (слайд №15)

What do you know about Loch Ness?

It is the third largest lake in Europe. It is the lake that never freezes. It is a mysterious thing in the loch – the Loch Ness Monster. (слайд № 16)

A popular nickname for the Loch Ness Monster is Nessie. (слайд № 17)

In Scotland were born many people, became famous in the future. For example: Robert Burns. He was born in 1759. Scotland! A beautiful country, that inspired Robert Burns to write so many wonderful poems about its countryside and its people. He believed in the strength of Scottish people. He sang songs to his people – so healthy and so clever. (слайд № 18,19)

My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer,

A-chasing the wild deer and following the roe –

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,

The birthplace of valour, the country of worth!

Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,

The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

Farewell to the mountains high cover’d with snow,

Farewell to the straths and green valleys below,

Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods,

Farewell to the torrents and long-pouring floods!

Scotland is very rich of customs and traditions. Scotland is a land of mountains, green valleys, legends and ancient castles.

Now I want you to do the following tasks. You have prepared some information about Scotland. There are some pictures here. Meet in groups to make your projects. Choose a speaker from your group and present your project to the classmates.

1. What do уоu imagine when уоu think of "Scotland"?

2. How would you advertise Scotland? Write an advertisement about Scotland.
