Празднуем Saint Valentine’s Day

Цель урока: 1. формирование кросс-культурной грамотности;

                    2. пополнение знаний по страноведению Англии иСША

Задачи урока:

1. формирование умения написать поздравительную открытку;
2. привитие вкуса к чтению стихов на английском языке;
3. активизация лексики по описанию внешности и характера человека;
4. активизация творческих способностей учащихся и интереса к предмету.

Форма урока: ролевая игра- празднование дня Св. Валентина.

Ход урока:

1. общая информация о происхождении и содержании праздника;
2. конкурс подготовленных дома поздравительных открыток;
3. элемент драматизации: сценка «The Story of Cupid»;
4. конкурс знания знаменитых пар влюблённых, известных из истории и литературных  произведений;
5. конкурс музыкальный;
6. конкурс стихов ко Дню Св. Валентина.

Конкурс открыток: проводится в 2-х ключах- юмористическом и серьёзном. Учащиеся заранее готовят открытки с забавными и серьёзными посланиями и подписью «Secret Admirer». Вместе с подписью дают описание своей внешности или упоминали какую-нибудь характерную черту. «Почтальон» выдаёт открытки адресатам , и те должны угадать ,от кого получили открытку.

Дополнительное оборудование: магнитофон и аудиокассеты с записью фрагментов музыкальных произведений; костюмы для сценки о Купидоне; иллюстрации к рассказу о происхождении праздника; картинки к календарю; различные предметы, использующиеся для декламирования стихов и рифмовок; сумка и фуражка почтальона

Оформление кабинета: плакаты с надписями ( Оnly love is spoken here;  Love makes the world go round), сердечки, шары

Сценарий ролевой игры-конкурса.

St.1: Good morning, friends! We all have been awaiting this day eagerly, because it is the day when people tell each other nice things, give presents to their beloved ones, speak and sing about love. Yes, today is St. Valentine’s Day.

St.2: There are  many different stories about the origin of St.V.D. we know that Valentine was a priest in Rome a long time ago. He was a very good priest and many people liked him.

St.3: Roman emperor Claudius did not want young men to get married. He wanted all men to go to war instead. He said no one could get married without his permission.

St.4:but young men and women who were in love wanted to get married. They went to Valentine and he married them in secret. When Claudius  found out, he put Valentine into prison. Claudius killed Valentine  on the 14-th of February.

St.5: Two hundred years later the church made February 14 a special day to remember Saint Valentine who became the patron saint of lovers.

St.6: Most European countries and the USA celebrate S.V.D. they have special customs to observe on that day. First of all, it is celebrated in families. Husbands and wives make little presents to each other, they go out for dinner or have a celebration at home.

St.7: Post and postcards has become a specific symbol of this day. Whoops! There’s a knock on the door. Please come in.  Oh,  it’s a postman!

Postman: I have brought a lot of love letters and funny postcards. Here, look at this one. Let’s see, who gets it. It is for ….

St.: thank you very much ( takes the postcard and reads):

You have a dimple in your cheek,

Many hearts you will seek.

A dimple on your chin,

Many hearts you will win.

   But I don’t know who sent this letter. It is signed: “A Secret Admirer”. What shall I do with it?

Postman: that’s a part of Valentine game. You have to guess who the admirer is.

 (the game goes on until all the postcards are given to their addressees.)

St.1: Do you know what story is in the center of the festival of lovers? Sure, it is the story of Cupid, the little god of love. Now we are going to tell it to you .

Cupid: I am the god of love. I have magic arrows. I like to make people fall in love by shooting my arrows into someone’s heart. (Student dressed up as Cupid pretends to shoot an arrow into one of the mate student)/Then that person  falls in love with the next person he sees. (Students act falling in love).

 St.2: We know a lot of famous couples from literature and history. Please match them.

St.3: Cupid often forgets to shoot a magic arrow into the other person’s heart. Then , sometimes, the other person does not love the first person.(Students act the described scene)

St.4: Cupid makes a lot of trouble this way. That’s why people from the old days  have been trying to remind Cupid  to shoot his arrows the right way. And the best way for that is poetry and songs and music. Listen to the music or a song and say who is the author or the singer.( A musical contest)

St.5: Love—L-O-V-E only 4 letters, but it’s a big word. A lot of people have their own idea about what it means.

St.6: Robert Frost said “ We love the things we love for what they are” and “ earth is the right place for love. I don’t know where it’s likely to go better”

St.7: Someone once said, “ Love is not getting, but giving- it is goodness, honor and peace.

St.1: In English speaking countries there are special rhymes which are said to attract love and guess the future mate.

The moon shines bright,

The stars give a light,

And you may kiss a pretty girl

At 10 o’clock at night.

Mirror, mirror, tell me,

Am I pretty or plain?

Or am I downright ugly

And ugly to remain?

Shall I marry a gentleman?

Shall I marry a clown/

Or shall I marry old Knives-and-Scissors

Shouting through the town?

Lady-bird, Lady-bird, fly from my hand.

Tell me where my true love stands

Uphill or downhill. Or by the sea sand,

Lady-bird, Lady-bird, fly from my hand.

Fly, Lady-bird, fly!

North. South, East or West.

Fly to the pretty girl that I love best.

St.3: Let us perform the Lover’s Calendar.

The 1-st month of the year is January. Married when the year is new, he’ll be loving, kind and true.

When February birds do mate

You wed not dread your fate

If you wed when March winds blow

Joy and sorrow you’ll both know

Marry in April when you can

Joy for maiden not for man

Marry in the month of May

And you’ll surely rue the day

Marry when June roses grow

Over land and sea you’ll go

Those who in July are wed

Must labour for their daily bread

Whoever wed in August be

Many a change is sure to see

Marry in September’s shine

Your living will be rich and fine

If in October you do marry love will come but riches tarry

Love will come but riches tarry

If you wed in bleak November only Joys will come, remember

When December snows fall fast marry and true love will last

St.4: Someone once said, “Love doesn’t make the world go round, but it makes the ride worthwhile”

St.5: We disagree! We think that love does make the world go round!

St.6: And when you are feeling pessimistic or angry or bitter-say yourself-only love makes the world go round.

St.6: and when you are feeling pessimistic or angry or bitter-say yourself- “Love makes the world go round!”
