«УМНИКИ И УМНИЦЫ»

Цель: поддержание интереса к изучению английского языка.

Задачи: повысить интерес ребят к географии, культуре страны изучаемого языка, к образу жизни людей, их традициям и обычаям, а также к самому предмету «иностранный язык»; вызвать у школьников мотивацию к изучению английского языка, расширить лексический и страноведческий запас учащихся; совершенствовать навыки аудирования, чтения говорения и письма.

Оборудование: Презентация “Smart boys & Smart girls”, эмблемы учащихся, карточки с заданиями, аудиозаписи песен, карточки-пазлы, клей-карандаши, видео-песня “Bingo!”

Ход урока

Звучит мелодия английской песни, под нее входят учащиеся и занимают свои места.

Teacher: Dear guests, teachers and friends! We begin our quiz “Smart boys & Smart girls”. (Слайд № 1)  Today we're going to speak about Great Britain. Let's introduce with the players. They are “Smart boys” : Max, Bogdan, Dan, Andrew and Sam and “Smart girls”: Christine, Elizabeth, Nina, Elvina and Galina!  Applaud them! (Слайд № 2) So, today we’ll know: Who is the smartest? Boys or girls?  The aim of the Quiz is to revise the main information you learnt at the classes “English is fun!” and of course to learn more about this country.

But, first of all, greet  our jury! They are: Nadezhda Petrovna,  Olga Alexandrovna  and Galina Anatolievna.

So let's begin. Good luck!

The first round is about the geography of the United Kingdom. You answer orally. Look at the screen.

The first question is for you, Smart girls. The next one is for Smart boys. 5 points for this task.

Teacher: Great results, my dear players. Now it’s the second round. It’s about culture of the UK. You will do it in your cards with the help of the screen. Look through the names of sightseeings and holidays. 15 points for the 15 correct answers.

Teacher: Very good, Smart boys & Smart girls! Give your answers to the jury. Then look at the screen and check yourselves with proverbs (учащиеся вместе с жюри проверяют правильные ответы на экране).  Now let’s revise our grammar. The next third round is playing bingo.  (Слайд № 35) You’ve got a table with the verbs in Past Simple and small cards with these verbs but in Present Simple. Your task is to stick correctly the small cards with the verbs in Present Simple Tense according their past form down the words in the table. Then you’ll get a picture, show and name it. Who will be the first, say BINGO! If you do it correctly, you’ll get 5 points.

Teacher: Excellent! So, what picture did you get? Show us and the jury!

        Smart boys: double–decker.

        Smart girls: tea with milk.

• Maybe, you’re tired a little. And it’s time for relaxing. The fourth round is musical – «Guess the melody». You listen to the melody attentively and guess the song, then you sing it. You’ll get 2 points, if you guess 2 songs. (Слайды  №  36-37 )

Smart girls, listen to, please. (1 – «Jingle bells», 2 – «Fairy tale»)

Smart boys, you turn. (1- «Merry Christmas», 2- «Happy birthday to you!»)

Teacher:  The fifth round is listening to the well-known song of group Ace of Base. (Слайд № 38)  But first, you will watch the video of the song and discus it. While listening you must put missed words in the text of song in your cards. If you do it correctly, you’ll get 1 point per 1 missing word. (Слайды №  39-42) Ace of Base is a famous Swedish band in 90-ths that sang songs in English. their song “Beautiful Life” was the top hit of the 90-ths. Watch and listen attentively especially the II couplet and refrain.

Teacher:  What is the song about? (about life, your feelings and emotions).

Beautiful Life (Ace Of Base)

Teacher: Good work! Give the answers to the jury. Check the answers on the screen. And now do the last task. The sixth round is Speaking – Role-play «Afternoon tea». (Слайд№ 43 ) I need two boys and two girls from each team. You watch the pictures at the screen and act out the dialogues according to them. Which pair are the best actors that will get 5 scores?

На столе лежат две чашки и чайник. Гость приносит с собой коробку конфет. Инсценируются диалоги. Каждый диалог-картинка  выводится на экран и, согласно ему, учащиеся играют свои роли.

Teacher: You are great actors! Thank you for the role-play. Now our jury will count your general score and name the team-winner: Smart boys or Smart girls? While they’re summing up, let’s play with the audience. You may bring the points to your teams.
