Cinderella

(A short play for schoolchildren in simple English)

Characters:

• Narrator
• Cinderella (Cindy)
• Fairy Godmother

Setting: Cinderella's house, the Palace, and the road between.

(Scene 1: The Kitchen)

Narrator: Once upon a time, a kind girl named Cinderella lived with her stepmother and two stepsisters. They were very cruel. Cinderella cooked, cleaned, and worked all day. Everyone called her ";

Stepmother: (Shouting) Cindy! Clean the floor! My daughters need a clean house!

Griselda: And Cindy, wash my dress! I want to wear it for the Prince's ball!

Zelda: And Cindy, fix my hair! I want to look beautiful for the Prince!

Cinderella: (Sighs) Yes, sisters. I am working. I will do everything.

(The stepsisters leave. Cinderella looks out the window. She is sad.)

Cinderella: The Prince's I want to go, too. But I have no dress. I have no carriage. I must stay home and work.

(Scene 2: The Invitation)

Narrator: That afternoon, a messenger from the Palace arrives with an invitation.

Messenger: (To the family) The King invites you all to a ball! The Prince wants to find a wife!

Stepmother: A wife! Oh, my beautiful daughters, you must go!

Griselda: The Prince will marry me!

Zelda: No, he will marry me!

Cinderella: (Quietly) can I go to the ball, too?

Stepmother: (Laughs cruelly) You? Go to the ball? You have no nice dress! You have to stay home and clean the house! Now, go to work!

(Cinderella is very sad.)

(Scene 3: The Fairy Godmother)

Narrator: The stepmother and stepsisters go to the ball. Cinderella is alone. She cries (while mopping the floor). Suddenly, a light appears!

Fairy Godmother: (Appears) Don't cry, my dear. Why are you sad?

Cinderella: I want to go to the ball, but I cannot.

Fairy Godmother: You are a good girl. I can help you! But remember: the magic ends at midnight. You must come home before 12 o'clock!

Cinderella: I will! I promise!

Fairy Godmother: Good! Now, let's A pumpkin! (Waves her wand) Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo! Become a golden carriage!

Narrator: The pumpkin becomes a beautiful carriage.

Fairy Godmother: Now, mice! (Waves her wand) Become horses! And you, little lizard, become a coachman!

Narrator: Mice become horses, and a lizard becomes a man.

Fairy Godmother: And now, for you! (Waves her wand) Your old dress becomes a beautiful blue gown! And these old become glass shoes!

Cinderella: (Looks at herself) Oh! It's beautiful! Thank you!

Fairy Godmother: Now, go to the ball! And remember: before midnight!

(Scene 4: The Ball)

Narrator: At the palace, everyone is dancing. The Prince is bored. He doesn't like the girls. Then, Cinderella arrives.

King: Look, Charles! A beautiful girl! Who is she?

Prince Charles: (His eyes widen, he is curious) I don't But she is beautiful!

(The Prince walks to Cinderella.)

Prince Charles: Good evening. Would you like to dance?

Cinderella: Yes, thank you.

Narrator: They dance all night. They are very happy. The Prince thinks she is wonderful.

(Suddenly, the clock starts to ring. BONG! BONG!)

Cinderella: (Looks at the clock) Oh, no! It is midnight! I must go!

Prince Charles: Wait! Please, don't go! What is your name?

(Cinderella runs away. On the stairs, she loses one glass shoe. She runs home. The Prince finds the shoe.)

Prince Charles: Father, I will find her! I will marry this girl!

(Scene 5: The Search)

Narrator: The next day, the Prince visits every house in the kingdom. He looks for the girl with the small foot to put the shoe on.

(The Prince arrives at Cinderella's house.)

Prince Charles: Is there a young woman living here? I am looking for the girl from the ball.

Stepmother: Of course! These are my daughters!

Griselda: (Tries the slipper) My foot is too big!

Zelda: (Tries the slipper) My foot is too big, too!

Prince Charles: Are there any other girls in this house?

Stepmother: No! Only our dirty Cinderella. She is not important.

Prince Charles: I want to see her. Every girl in the kingdom must try the glass shoe on!

(Cinderella comes out of the kitchen.)

Prince Charles: You! It's you! Please, try the shoe!.

(Cinderella tries the shoe. It fits perfectly. She takes the other shoe from her pocket.)

Cinderella: And here is the other one.

Prince Charles: (Smiles) You are the beautiful girl from the ball! Will you marry me?

Cinderella: Yes, I will!

(Scene 6: The Wedding)

Narrator: Cinderella and the Prince got married. They lived happily ever after. And Cinderella was always kind, even to her stepmother and stepsisters.

All Characters: (Bow together) The End!

Tips for Performance:

• Props: Use simple props. A broom for Cinderella, a cardboard crown for the Prince, a glittery wand for the Fairy Godmother.
• Costumes: Different colored sashes or hats can distinguish the characters.
• Pronunciation: Practice the key phrases like "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" and "glass ;
• Emotion: Encourage the actors to use big gestures and facial expressions to show sadness, cruelty, and happiness.
