Olenegorsk is situated in the centre of the Kola Peninsula, beyond the Polar Circle. The history tells us about the first settlements of this place, as Saami. Long before Olenegorsk became a town, there had been an ancient saami graveyard, called Maselg.
Olenegorsk is rather a young town. It was founded in 1957 by workers of the mining-and processing enterprise. Today a great part of Olenegorsk’s citizens work here and produce iron ore.
The geographic location of Olenegorsk has determined the characteristics of it’s mild subarctic climate, weather and landscapes. Tundra makes an incredible impression on every person who can see its bright flowers, different berries, animals and nipples.
