Bagira: On the 30-th of December 1865 in India a baby-boy was born in English family who lived in Bombay.

Balu: The parents gave him a strange name – Rudyard – that was the name of lake, where his mother and father had met some years before.

Bagira: He spent his yearly years  in India. From Hindi servants he learned wonderful tales and song of Indian folklore. Hindi was the first language he spoke to England, where for the next six year he had an unhappy life. He faced too much beating there.

Balu: Rudyard returned to India, when he was 16. He worked as a newspaper reporter and part – time writer and this helped him to understand colonial life, which he later showed in his stories, novels and poems.

Bagira: Kipling was one of those rare writers who are equally at home in prose and in verse. He became famous when he was just 25.

Песня «На далекой Амазонке»

        I’ve never sailed the Amazon,

        I’ve never reached Brazil;

        But the Don and Magdalena,

They can go there when they will!

Yes, weekly from Southampton,

Great steamers, white and gold,

Go rolling down to Rio

Some day before I’m old!

Unless I go to Rio

These wonders to behold-

I’d love to roll to Rio

Some day before I’m old!

МУЗЫКА

ЭКРАН

Balu: He traveled a lot but the country he loved was India. The beauty of its exotic nature and animal world, its people and traditions inspired his Best known masterpiece “The Jungle Book”

Сказки

The cat that walked by himself

Bagira: Hear and attend and listen; for this befell and be happened and became and was.

The Tame animals were wild. The Dog was wild, and the horse was wild, and the Cow was wild, snd the Sheep was wild, and the Pig was wild – as wild as wild could be – and they walked in the Wet Wild Woods by their wild lones.

МУЗЫКА

Cat: But the wildest of old the wild animals was the Cat. He walked by himself, and all places were alike to him.

МУЗЫКА

Man: Of course the Man was wild too. He was dreadfully wild. He didn’t even begin to be tame…

МУЗЫКА

Woman: Till he met the Woman, and she told him that she did in his wild ways. She picked out a nice dry Cave, lit a nice fire of wood at the back of the Cave; and she said “Wipe your feet, dear, when you come in, and now we’ll keep house”

МУЗЫКА

Движняк (Звери собираются вместе и перешептываются)

Horse: Oh, my Friends and O my Enemies, why have the Man and the Woman made the great light in that great Cave.

Dog: I’ll look up and say; for think it’s good

        (Пес, поскуливая, приближается  к пещере)

Woman: Here comes the first. Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, what do you want? Taste and try.

Dog: It’s more delicious than anything, give me another.

Woman: Help my Man to hunt and guard this Cave, and I’ll as many roasf bones as you need.

Cat:  Ah! This is a very wise woman, but she is not so wise as I am.

МУЗЫКА

Wild horse:  A Wild Horse was the  second animal to come to the cave and got much fresh cut grass for the work.

Wild Cow: A Wild Cow came and became the Giver of Good Food for the people and got much fresh hay and gave much warm white milk.

МУЗЫКА

Cat: At last the Cat walked there by himself and he saw the Woman milking the Cow.

Woman: Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, go back to the Woods again, we have no more need of either friends of servants in our Cave

Cat: I’m not a friend, and I am not a servant. I’m the Cat who walks by himself, and I wish to come into your Cave.

Woman: You’re neither a friend nor a servant. You have said it yourself. Go away and walk by yourself in all places alike.

Cat: Must I never come into the Cave? Must I never sit by the warm fire? Must I never drink the warm white milk? You are very wise and very beautiful.

Woman: I knew I was  wise, but I did not know I was beautiful. So I’ll make a bargain with you. If ever I say one word in your praise you may come into the Cave.

Cat: And if you say two words in me praise?

Woman: I never shell , but if I say three words in your praise, you may drink the warm white milk three times a day for always and always and always.

МУЗЫКА

(Кот уходит в пещере движняк. Потом приходит, стоит в сторонке и говорит в слух)

Cat: There is a Baby in the Cave. He is new and pinkand fat and small, and the Woman is very found of him… and he’s fond of things that are soft of warm things to hold in his arms when he goes to sleep. He’s fond of being played with. He is fond of all those things… then my time has come!

Woman: The woman was busy cooking that morning, and the Baby cried and interrupted.

        Движняк. Кот играет  с ребенком

МУЗЫКА

Woman: A blessing on that Wild Thing whoever he may be, for I was a busy woman this morning ahd he has done me a service.

Cat: Oh, my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of Enemy, it’s I and now I can sit within the Cave for always and always and always.

Now I will sing the Baby a song that shall keep him asleep for an hour.

Woman: That was wonderfully done. No question but you are very clever, O Cat!

Cat: You have spoken a second word in my praise, and now I can sit by the warm fire at the back of the Cave for always and always.

МУЗЫКА

Woman: Ouh! Chee! No endeed! (визжит)

Cat: The mouse will do me no harm if I eat it?

Woman: No, eat it quickly and I will ever be grateful to you. A hundred thanks. Even the First Friend is not quick enough to catch little mice as you had done. You must be very wise.

Cat: O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of my Enemy. It’s I; for you have spoken three words in my praise and now I can drink the warm white milk three times a day for always and always and always. But still I’m the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.

МУЗЫКА

Woman: Cat keeps his side of the bargain. He’ll kill mice and he’ll be kind to Babies when he is in the house. But when he has done that, he’s the Cat that walks by himself, and all places are alike to him.

Cat: He goes out to the Wet Wild Woods or up the Wet Wild Trees or on the Wet Wild Roots, waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone.

МУЗЫКА

ЭКРАН

Bagira: There is smth. musical in Rudyard stories, smth. that makes them different from other animal tales. But all his characters, even the most exotic ones look like you and me.

Djinn: “Of course not”

Horse: Well, there is an animal in the middle of your Desert, with a long neck and long legs and he hasn’t done any work since Monday morning. He doesn’t want to carry anybody on his back.

МУЗЫКА

(Джин носится по пустыне в облаке пыли и ищет верблюда. Тот выходит и они сталкиваются)

Djinn: You made the Horse, the Dog and the Ox work double time, because you were idle. I’m going to punish you.

Camel: “Humph!”

Djinn: Don’t say that silly work again you say it often. Now listen to me, Camel. You must work (Джин колдует)

Camel: “Humph!” And when he said it again he saw that his back began to puff up into a great big hump.

Djinn:  Do you see that? That’s your own hump. You have got it because you didn’t work. Today is Thursday, and you’ve done no work since Monday, when the work began. Now you are going to work!

Camel: How can I with hump on my back?

Djinn:  With this on your back you’ll be able to work for 3 days within eating because you can live on your own hump and don’t say that I never did anything for you. Come out of the Desert join the Horse, the Dog and the Ox. And work hard!

Camel: And from that day to this the Camel always has a hump, but he has never yet caught up the 3 days that he missed at the beginning of world, thought he had learned to work hard.

МУЗЫКА

ЭКРАН

The Camel’s hump is an ugly lump

Which well you may see at the Zoo;

But uglier yet is the humd we get

From having too little to do.

Kiddies and grown-ups too-oo-oo,

If we haven’t enough to do-oo-oo,

We get the hump-

Cameelious hump-

The hump that is black and blue!

The cure for this ill is not to sit still,

Or frost with a book by the fire;

But to take a large hoe and a shovel also,

And dig till you gently perspire;

МУЗЫКА

ЭКРАН

Balu: He wrote many books for children and grownups. Perhaps, you’ll read them when you become older.

He revived the ballad and the folk tale. The lines of  his verse can communicate the rapid beating of the hurt, the tramp of marching soldiers.

МУЗЫКА

Boots(стих)

We're foot—slog—slog—slog—sloggin' over Africa —
Foot—foot—foot—foot—sloggin' over Africa —
(Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up an' down again!)
There's no discharge in the war!

МУЗЫКА

ЭКРАН

Bagira: In 1907 Kipling became the first English writer to be awarded the Nobel prize.

Balu: He died in England in January 1936. He was buried at the Poet’s corner in Westminster Abbey.

Bagira: But his works still reveal a magic kingdom for both adult and child reader alike. And his creations, told to your nearest and dearest, still teach the children of all the times everything the books should teach: how to behave, how to explore the world and to keep safe.

МУЗЫКА

ЭКРАН

Стих “If”

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And -- which is more -- you'll be a Man, my son!
