The idea of the research

This year our school celebrates the fiftieth anniversary.  That is why we start thinking about our school history and about types of education. Our parents have told us that their education was not similar. And we decided to compare some elements, which we use in our everyday school life.

The hypothesis

Before the research we were thinking that modern students now can not live without modern technologies. It is the main reason for their preferences. We believed that they should really like all elements of modern school.

The aim of the research

          The main purpose was to discover either teens like our school or not and to compare constituent elements of modern and “old” school.

The research task

  1. To search for historical facts  about school 121
  2. To make up a little questionnaire design for other students in our school
  3.  To take the interview
  4. To work with all the given information and present it (to compare education with new technologies and without them; to compare two types of school uniform; to compare two forms of exams: the traditional and the new one; to explore students’ wishes for school improvements)
  5. To make up a conclusion

Used equipment:

  1. The PC
  2. The photo camera
  3. The School library

Target audience:

Schoolchildren, schoolchidren’s parents, teachers and our Head teacher

The body of the research

The theoretical part:

  1. In 1914 a one-storey school was built  and nearby was a teachage (a wooden house for teachers). There were only 6 classes.
  2. In 1938 was built a two-storey high school. Subjects, which were taught: Physic, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Astronomy, Singing.
  3. Now there are six teachers who were students of our school.

The conclusion

During the research we’ve interviewed all students of the secondary and high school. This group of teens was asked about their attitude to the most important constituent elements of school life. The first question in questionnaire was about school uniform. 40% of students say that they do not like school uniform, 40% answered that they like it and 20 % said that they do not (Appendix I). During 10 years  that we have been learning in this school we had 3 kinds of school uniform. And we would like to ask our students “Which school uniform is better?”  

Very few students said that school uniform absence is better choice. No one choose another kind of uniform. And a little part of person said that they do not know (Appendix II).

Half part of interviewers thinks that our uniform is not comfortable because it’s made of wool, 40% said that school uniform is comfortable and 10 % answered that they don’t know (Appendix III). In our research we have compared the new and traditional form of exams. The majority of pupils think that new form is better that traditional one. Not big group of students thinks that traditional form is better (Appendix IV). Now we can be absolutely sure that teenagers like when teachers use IT during their lessons (Appendix V).

All results of the research will be transferred to school administration.
