Цель:

  • способствовать повышению мотивации учащихся в обучении английскому языку,
  • интересу культуре и обычаям другого народа,
  • повышения эффективности восприятия материала а, следовательно, эффективности обучения.

Задачи:

  • Развивающие
    – развить языковые, интеллектуальные, творческие способности учащихся.
  • Обучающие
    – совершенствовать навыки чтения, письма и коммуникативного общения, научить сравнивать и делать правильные выводы.
  • Воспитывающие
    – сформировать готовность воспринимать культуру другого народа, расширить с помощью английского языка представление учащихся об окружающем мире, их кругозор, воспитать умение работать в группе и принимать единое решение. Основной целью данного метода обучения является формирование и совершенствование устно-речевых умений учащихся в рамках строго предписанного ролевого поведения.

Рождество в странах мира «Christmas all around the world»

Цель: 

  • способствовать повышению мотивации учащихся в обучении английскому языку,
  • интересу культуре и обычаям другого народа,
  • повышения эффективности восприятия материала а, следовательно, эффективности обучения.

Задачи:

    – совершенствовать навыки чтения, письма и коммуникативного общения, научить сравнивать и делать правильные выводы.
  • Воспитывающие
    – сформировать готовность воспринимать культуру другого народа, расширить с помощью английского языка представление учащихся об окружающем мире, их кругозор, воспитать умение работать в группе и принимать единое решение. Основной целью данного метода обучения является формирование и совершенствование устно-речевых умений учащихся в рамках строго предписанного ролевого поведения.

Сценарий праздника

Звучит запись ”Ночь перед Рождеством”.

Зажигаются свечи.

Дети рассказывают стихотворение”A visit from St.Nicholas”.

Twas the night before Christmas,
When all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse,
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St.Nicholas soon would be there:
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads.

Teacher: Good morning, everybody!!! Today our lesson is devoted to Christmas Day. Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25th of each year. It is the day Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The word “Christmas” means “Christ’s Mass”. The word Mass is an ancient Christian church service at which people give praise and glory to God. Christians believe that Jesus Christ was born in a stable in Bethlehem about two thousand years ago and was the son of God. The history of Jesus’ birth explains many of the things we see and do at Christmas time. It explains why we sing carols about Jesus and why we play games, why we give presents just as the wise men gave gifts to Jesus. It explains why we put a star on the top of Christmas tree, like the three wise men followed. Today we are going to speak about different customs and traditions around the world. Christmas colors are red and green.

And all whom you love will be happy and near.
The scents of the feast will be filling the air.
Music will play as you merrily share.
This is a time that will always be dear.
With all whom you love being happy and near.
I wish you the best for this season of lights
A time that is precious and full of delights,
With joy that extends past the month and the year,
With all whom you love being happy and clear.

Teacher: The poems make really great impression. It very beautiful of emotions. I think you agree with me. Many of Christmas customs began long before Jesus was born. In ancient times the sun was worshipped as a god. Christmas day falls in the middle of winter when there is little sun and the days are short. Pagans lit sacred fires and held ceremonies at this time of the year, hoping to give the sun back its strengths. In ancient Rome people worshipped the Sun and Saturn. They had a special festival in winter. For that festival they decorated their homes this evergreen branches to remind Saturn to send good crops the following spring. (Приложение 1). They also give branches to their friends as presents. In winter they began instead to remember the birth of Jesus, the sun of God. But nowadays people have continued the old Rome custom to decorate their homes with evergreens on Christmas Eve. Now dear friends let’s discuss how people celebrate Christmas around the world. (Дети рассказывают о традициях в других странах мира)

P4: Christmas in England. The English enjoy beautiful Christmas music. They love to decorate Christmas tree and hang up evergreen branches. One England’s s custom is mummering. In the middle Ages, people called mummers put on masks and acted out Christmas plays. The English gift giver is called Father Christmas. He wears a long red or green robe and leaves presents in stockings on Christmas Eve. In Britain, children write letters to Father Christmas and then throw them into the fireplace so they will float up the chimney and fly to the North Pole. If the lists catch fire first, they have to rewrite them. In England, the only thing that people ate on the day before the feast was Frumenty, which is, was a kind of porridge made from corn. Over the years the recipe changed. The whole mixture was wrapped in cloth and boiled. This is how plum pudding began. The traditional Christmas dinner is roast turkey with vegetables, a plum pudding with little treasures hidden inside that bring their finders good luck.

P5: You know that English people like to eat Christmas pudding for Christmas.

Teacher: And now let’s continue our discussing with another country. How do people celebrate Christmas in France?

P6: In France on Christmas people have a Christmas tree, sometimes decorated in the old way with red ribbons and wax candles. Father Christmas is called Pure Noël. The Christmas meal is an important family gathering with good meal and the best wine. Not everyone sends Christmas cards. On Christmas Eve, children leave their shoes by the fireplace to be filled with gifts from Pure Noel. The traditional Christmas is a chocolate log. In France families used to have a Three Kings Cake with a bean hidden in it. Whoever found the bean in their slice was made King or Queen for the day.

Teacher: Do you know that the sacred plants are the Holly and Ivy? Holly is the symbol of good luck. It can keep the house from the fire. It’s a symbol of man. Ivy is a soft and clinging plant. It’s a symbol of woman. These two plants symbolize friendship, love and peace between the wife and husband. Another holly plant is mistletoe. Holly, ivy, and mistletoe what other Christmas words do you know? Let’s have a rest and play the quiz. (Приложение 1.)

Teacher: We speak about the customs ant traditions all around the world. Who tells us about another country? (Ученик выходит и рассказывает об Испании)

P7: Most homes have a manger, like cathedrals and churches. These are complete with carved figures. During the weeks before Christmas, families gather around their manger to sing. The children play tambourines and dance. Shoes are placed on balconies on the night of the 6th of January in the hope that the Wise Men will fill them with gifts.

Teacher: Its very interesting traditions. But there is another. The most popular of all the Christmas evergreens is the fir tree. The first man who brought the fir tree indoors was Martin Luther, the German religious reformer who lived in the 16th century. People in England used to grow many kinds of trees. The first fir tree was brought to England from Germany in 1846 by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband.

Teacher: In 1843 Sir Henry Cole asked an artist to design a card that he could send to each of his friends.

What do people usually write on the cards?

Teacher: People often sing carols (Christmas songs) on Christmas Eve in the streets or at home. Listen is one of them. (Ребята поют один из Рождественских гимнов). (Приложение 2)

Teacher: There are a lot of X-mas traditions but the main idea is that a person has to prepare himself for seeing in this holiday. The peoples’ souls must be clean and for this we are to do our best in all deeds and thoughts. We talk about traditions all around the world. How do people celebrate Christmas in China?

P8: Christmas in China. The Christian children of China decorate trees with colorful ornaments. These ornaments are made from paper in the shape of flowers, chains and lanterns. They also hang stockings hoping that Christmas Old Man will fill them with gifts and treats. The Chinese Christmas trees are called “Trees of Lights”. Santa Claus is called Dun Che Lao Ren which means “Christmas Old Man”. The non-Christian Chinese call this season the Spring Festival and celebrate with many festivities that include delicious meals and pay respects to their ancestors.

Teacher: There are advent calendars. It has 24 numbers doors, one for every day of Advent.

The doors are opened day by day, to reveal a Christmas Eve. Candles divided into 24 parts and every day before X-mas put on the window. They say the candles lighted the way for people. (рисунок 3 в Приложении 2) 

P9: Another tradition is in Latvia. Latvians believe that Father Christmas brings presents on each of the 12 days of Christmas starting on Christmas Eve. Usually the presents are put under the family Christmas tree. What a good idea to spread Christmas out longer!

The special Latvian Christmas Day meal is cooked brown peas with bacon (pork) sauce, small pies, cabbage and sausage.

Teacher: People in Portugal pretend that Father Christmas brings presents to children on Christmas Eve. The presents are left under the Christmas tree or in shoes by the fireplace. A special Christmas meal is fish with boiled potatoes. How do people celebrate in England?

P10: The English enjoy beautiful Christmas music. They love to decorate Christmas Trees and hang up evergreen branchers.All the members of the family gather together. They sit around the family table, speak with each other, play games and sing songs, give each other presents and wish the dearest and nearest a merry Christmas. We wish you a merry Christmas!!!

P11: We shall continue our lesson talking about Christmas. Christmas in Ireland lasts from Christmas Eve to the feast of the Epiphany on January6, which is referred to as Little Christmas. Ireland’s Christmas is more religious than a time of fun. Lighted candles are placed in windows on Christmas Eve, as a guide that Joseph and Mary might be looking for shelter. Irish women bake a seed cake for each person in the house. They also make three puddings, one for each day of the Epiphany such as Christmas, New Year’s Day and the Twelfth Night. After the Christmas evening meal, bread and milk are left out and the door unlatched as a symbol of hospitality. Children often put out Christmas sacks instead of stockings.
