Предварительный просмотр:

  1. A)Read the text “My homeland” and choose a suitable title for each paragraph. There is one extra title.

  • A truthful arm.
  • Main facts of the political life in Buguruslan.
  • The official date of appearing of Buguruslan.
  • Explaining of the original name.
  • Making the town better.
  • Town at the beginning of 19 century.
  • In a neighborhood with fortresses.

Here is my homeland with wild deserts

Where only good people you can meet!

Oak forests and rich valleys

And covered by fields of wheat!

                                                                                S. T. Aksakov.

        1. At the beginning of the 17th century the building of Zakamskaya line was begun. Every year the number of fortresses, redoubts, which both were protectors from migrates and many other colonize rose. In a neighborhood with these fortresses and under their protection little villages were appeared. Searching free lands people built their houses further to the south and the east. Some families settled in place where river Buguruslan flew into river Mochegay. Later the first settlements were moved to the highlands and protected from winds from three sides.

        2. At the end of 1748 office of Orenburg region ordered to settle Buguruslan by people without revelations. It was first documentary sign and that date became a birthday date of Buguruslan. The names of our town were named differently in the 18th and the 19th centuries. They were «Bogoroslan», «Boguruslan». Only at the end of the 19th century a modern name was set in.

        3. It is very difficult to introduce what «Sloboda» was, because there is no one document about it. Its name «Sloboda» town got because of the river not far from Buguruslan. The original name is explained differently. One think that it was appeared from «buga» (turksky) – bull, others think that from «arsian» (turksky) – lion, a lion garden. I agree with great Orenburg science – S. T. Popov. He said that river Buguruslan could be interpreted like «mighty river», «strong river». The greatest writer S. T. Aksakov wrote in his books how his dad had bought a land by river Big Buguruslan - quick, deep and mighty.

        4. In 1781 «Sloboda» was reorganized to Buguruslan it got an arm – a running marten and black sheep on a green field. Every of these facts was symbolized about plenty lands in Buguruslan, although these symbols were not truth. P. I. Rychkov attested to the harvest that was not more then 30-35 pounds from a gektar.

        5. Town was developed slowly. At the beginning of the 19th century there was a church, three owned houses, wine cellar, 11 little shops, 3 pubs, 2 smiths and 236 private houses. In 1826 town was destroyed by the great fire. People were made to build the town again. In summer of 1837 the greatest Russian poet V. A. Jukosky was in Orenburg region. On 18 June, on the way from Busuluk to Buguruslan in his diary he wrote: « There are nice rodes, plenty valleys, great mountains, and oaks, birches and marmots minks».

6. Due to facts we know how our town looked like. In 1843 there were ten streets and two squares, 583 private houses, only 17 of them were stone, two churches in Buguruslan. In 1876 at the crossing of two streets Gaya and Komsomolskaya the first hospital was built. It had only 12 beds. Those years in Buguruslan local schools were opened.

B) Make a pair and discuss with your partner different questions from the text. Act the dialogue.

        1. Why was the building of Zakamskaya line begun?

        2. Explain the fact of the first settlements moving to the highlands.

        3. What were the first settlements in Buguruslan?

        4. What way is the name “Sloboda” explained?

        5. Was the town developed quickly?

        6. How did our town look like?

C) Try to translate the poem in literature manner before the text and compare with real Aksakov’s variant.

D) What English proverbs about homeland do you know?

2) Fill in the text “My Little Motherland - Buguruslan” missing words and word combinations.

My Little Motherland – Buguruslan.

We live in 1…, but at the same time we have our little native homeland. For us it’s Buguruslan. There is no place better then home. But what we know about its history.

It is situated in the 2… region. In 1736 the construction of Samara line from 3… to Orenburg was begun. Some defensive fortresses were built on this line.

In 1748 Buguruslan was found. 4… specialist Popov’s version the base “Bug” meets in geographical names: Bugulma, Elabuga, 5 and others.

In Dal’s explanatory dictionary “Bug” has the meaning “strong”. So, Buguruslan is a strong river.

Also, there is 6 young man, whose name was Ruslan and a girl named Buga. They loved each other, but were unhappy. So, Buga was drowned the river and Ruslan did the same. That’s why the town got such name.

What legends to believe think you?

Buguruslan is located in the northwest part of Orenburg area, in 7… natural zone. The climate is strong continental, than in other parts of Orenburg.

Our region has hot and dry summers, windy and rainy autumns, cold winters 8… springs.

Mid-annual temperature of air is +3, 0 degrees.

Absolute maximum summer temperature is +40 degrees.

EX. 3 Writing.

A) Personal letter.

You have received a letter from your pen friend Vicky who writes:

I have been reading a very interesting book. It is a new part of “HARRY PORTER”. I liked it very much. Do you like to read? What are your favorite books?

Write 100-140 words.

Remember the rules of letter writing.

B) Composition.

Some people believe that it is impossible to live without reading of a good book. .

What can you say for and against this statement?

Write 200-250 words.

Use the following plan:

1. Introduction.

2. Arguments “FOR”

3. Arguments “AGAINST”

4. Conclusion.

1) Complete the text in the logical order.

“There are a lot of invisible forms and silent sounds in the space.

There are a lot of wonderful combinations both words and light in it.

But they can be shown by a man who can see and hear!”

A. There is no one man in the world who doesn’t love art, no one who isn’t excited it. Art surrounds us everywhere in our life: in the architecture, in paintings etc. Buguruslan is rich of artists. Many of them were born in Buguruslan. The becoming of their talent was put here. They take their inspiration here. All of them show us their love to their native town, marvelous nature and people who live in it. Among them is Harchenko P.N., Nuretdinov I.V., Bugacheva N.G., Evdokimova O.D., Ruppel I.A. I think the surname Melikhov is known everybody in our town.

B. Pavel Alexandrovich Melikhov was born in 1965 in the family of engineers in Volgograd. His love for drawing led him to the school of art which he graduated in 1982. In 1984 he marched into the army, and then worked as a painter in Buguruslan. Now he is a designer in Buguruslan and an artist – decorator in Town Arts Department.

C. The abilities to perceive and incarnate the things which were perceived are the main attributes of the artists’ creative work.

D. Landscapes are the window to the nature and maybe the most natural and non – affected tone of fine arts. Pavel Melikhov uses different types of technique: the painting with oil – paint, the painting with water – colours. The transparence character of water – colour gives an especially nice view to the coloured tones, and applying of transparent layers of paints from colour to another gives a way of composing new tones which can be hardly achieved by the other ways. It can be shown by such paintings as “Crimea”, “The Birch wood”, “The meadow”, “Paths in the forest”, “The Kinel” and others. All these works were painted with special warmth.

E. Pavel turns summer theme. “Summer is different in accordance with colour palette”- the painter shares with his mood. Landscape is a major bearer of the lyric start in the creative work of the artist. The name of chamber art is suitable to the water – colour landscapes where a creative research of Pavel Melikhov is more evident.

F. The works of P.A.Melikhov were exhibited in  St.Petersburg and Volgograd. Personal exhibitions were held in different years in Buguruslan too.

Pavel Alexandrovich has got a creative family. His wife Irina Vladimirovna is a famous artist too. Their children Antonina and Mary like their parents are constant participators of children and youthful exhibitions and fond of Fine Arts. The Melikhov’s family likes to spend their time in the countryside. The beauty of native nature is a source of inspiration for their family. The landscape takes a special place in Pavel’s creative work.
