7. LONDON

London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic  and commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. Its population is about 12 million.

London is the oldest and the most interesting citiy in the world. The Romans founded a settlement on the river Thames 2,000 years ago. They called it Londinium.

London suffered two big catastrophes. They were a terrible Plague (pleig) in 1665 and the Great Fire in 1666. As a result of the Great Fire the city was destroyed very much including St. Paul’s Cathedral. It took Sir Christopher Wren 35 years to restore it.

Traditionally the city is divided into several parts: the City, the West End and the East End. They are very different from each other.

The heart of London is the City, its financial and business centre. Numerous banks, offices and firms are situated here. There are some famous ancient buildings within the city, among them St. Paul’s Cathedral, the greatest of English churches, and the Tower of London.

The Tower of London  dates back to 1066. It was used for many purposes: at first as a fortress, a royal palace, then as an observatory, a state prison and even the zoo. Now it is a museum.

London has a lot of places to visit and admire, as well as a lot of places to relax. They are famous parks: Hyde Park, St James’s park, Regent’s Park with its wonderful Zoo and others.

10. CHOOSING A CARREER

Everybody knows that choosing a profession is not an easy matter. Many roads are open for us: technical schools, colleges and universities. There are thousands of different kinds of jobs in our world.  No wonder that it is not an easy thing to make the right choice.

When choosing a future career, we should consider different factors. In my opinion, money is one of the most important  factors when you make a choice. I think everybody wants to have a highly paid job and to earn as much as possible. On the other hand, it’s good when you get satisfaction from your job. It is very important to choose a profession that suits your interests. It goes without saying that a job should be interesting and socially important.

I have always been interested in economics and I am good at Maths. I like working with people , and I think I am rather communicative. Besides, I am good at English. Today English is a must for every good specialist.

There are so many people who influence us in choosing our occupation. Parents and friends play a very important role in our choice. For instance, we can take their life experience and their job as an example for us.

I haven’t decided yet  what to study. But I hope I still have time to think and choose.

8. YOUTH PROBLEMS

We can’t but agree that teenagers have a lot of problems. One of the real problems is friendship. Good friends always understand your problems and help you when you are in trouble. But it’s difficult to make friends nowadays, because we have loads of homework. Unfortunately, we have no time to spend together with friends and share our secrets and experiences.

Many young people have problems with their parents. Some teenagers think that their parents don’t want to understand them. It’s called a generation gap. But I think our parents are people whom we can trust.

Another important problem is our school life. Teens are often under pressure in many ways at school. If they are not good at school subjects or something else, other students often tease them. So, if we try to understand each other, we can avoid lots of problems.

One more point is the difficulties of choosing a future profession. Almost all teenagers want to enter a university or a college. However, it’s rather difficult to pass entrance exams. Of course, if you study hard, it will be much easier.

And at last, there are so called “problem teenagers”, who smoke, drink alcohol or even take drugs. They often get into trouble. I think all these problems begin from the family.

So, if someone says that teens have no problems, that’s not true.
