Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London.
The Palace of Westminster was destroyed by fire in 1834. In 1844, it was decided to add the new buildings for the Houses of Parliament such as a tower and a clock.
The tower was built between 1843 and 1858 as the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster, now better known as the Houses of Parliament .
Big Ben’s official name is Saint Stephen's tower.
