By the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atlantic Ocean - from the east, and the Arctic Ocean - from the north. Administratively, the country is divided into 50 states and the District of Columbia, subordinate to the United States is also a number of island territories. US citizens are called Americans, and to the US itself is the common name of America. In the Russian language until the middle of the XX century was also the name of common North American United States (the USA).
