Mark Twain wa Mark Twain Mark Twain was born on the 30th of November in 1835 in a family of a small-town lawyer in the state of Missouri and died in1910. His real name was Samuel Clemens. He spent his childhood in a small town of Hannibal on the Mississippi river. There he went to school and made many friends. He was the leader in all the boy’s games. For ten years he worked as a printer. All his life Samuel was fond of reading. While he was a printer he spent much time in libraries.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn The Adventures of Tom Sawyer He worked as a journalist in newspapers in Nevada and California during the years of the Civil War. But Samuel wanted to be a sailor and when he was twenty he found a job on a boat and traveled up and down the Mississippi. After the Civil War he worked as a reporter for the “Territorial Enterprise” in Virginia City. The Best of Mark Twain

Agatha Christie is known all over the world as the Queen of Crime. She wrote 78 detective novels, 19 plays, and 6 romantic novels. Her books have been translated into 103 foreign language . They are the third best-selling books in the world (after Shakespeare's works and the Bible). Many of her novels and short stories have been filmed. The Mousetrap, her most famous play, is now the longest-running play in history of world theatre. Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie ’ s language is simple and good and it is pleasant to read her books in the original. Her plots always mislead the reader and keep him in suspense. He cannot guess who the criminal is. Fortunately, evil is always conquered in her novels.

Agatha Christie was born at Torquay, Devonshire. She was educated at home and took singing lessons in Paris. She began writing at the end of the First World War . Agatha Christie became generally recognized in 1926, after the publishing of her novel "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd". It is still considered her masterpiece.

Jack London Jack London was born in San Francisco in 1876. From his childhood he suffered greatly. He changed a lot of jobs: selling out newspapers, working at the factory. He hated that kind of job, which exhausted people and made them suffer physically and morally. Young Jack had no opportunity to go to school, he studied privately reading much at night. When gold was found in Alaska, Jack London joined the gold rush.

He returned home without gold but with impressions about people with whom he met and made friends. They became the prototypes of his heroes. The American novelist and short- story writer knew life in Alaska very well because he experienced it himself. That is why it is so interesting to read his novels «The Call of the Wild» and ‘’White Fang’’. His heroes are bright personalities. They are physically strong and enduring people. They try to find a way out from the most difficult situations. They fight and survive .
