Thomas:             Now, sir...

Teacher:               Why are you late this time?
Perhaps you'd like to sit with the girls again?

Thomas:             Oh, no, Mr. Dobbins.

Teacher:               Then I trust you have an excellent excuse?

Thomas:             I stopped to talk to Huck Finn.

Teacher:               Huckleberry Finn!  Does your aunt allow you to
associate with such riff-raff?

Thomas:             Well, I...

we were interrupted.
You have precisely...
to complete the drill.

Becky shows Tom a note
"How could you be so noble?"

Tom murmurs the words:
"How could you be so noble?"
"How could you be so noble?"

Becky.        Hello, Tom.

Thomas:             Hello, Becky.

Thomas:             Say, Becky, was you ever engaged?

Becky.        What's that?

Thomas:             Why, engaged to be married.

Becky.        No.

Thomas:             Would you like to?

Becky.        I reckon so. I don't know.
What's it like?

Thomas:             Like? Why, it ain't like anything.
It's... Remember what I wrote on your slate

Becky.        Yes.

Thomas:             Well, just say that to each other,
and you're engaged.
Anybody can do it.

Becky.        Well, not now.
Some other time.
Tomorrow.

Thomas:             Please, Becky, I'll whisper.
I love you.
Now you whisper it to me.

Becky.        Turn your face so as you can't see
and then I will.
Turn your face away. I love you.

Thomas:Now it's all done.
After this, you ain't never
gonna marry anybody but me.
Never. Will you?
Becky.        No, Tom, and you ain't ever
to marry anybody but me either.

Thomas:             Of course.
That's part of it.

Becky.        So nice. I never
heard of it before.

Thomas:             Why, it's ever so gay.
For me and Amy Lawrence,
when we was..

.
Becky.        Amy Lawrence?!
You and Amy Lawrence?!
Oh, Tom!
Then I ain't the first
you've ever been engaged to.

Thomas:             Don't cry, Becky.
That was a month ago.

Becky.        Go away.

Thomas:             Look, here's something
I wanna give you.

Becky.        I don't want it.

Thomas:
Well, here's the best
treasure I got.
Take it.

Becky.        Aah!
