Queen Elizabeth II is head of state of the UK as well as of fifteen other Commonwealth countries . The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy. The official Head of State is the king or the queen. But the Power of the monarch is limited by Parliament .
The Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the supreme legislative body in the United Kingdom and British overseas territories . It alone has parliamentary sovereignty, conferring it ultimate power over all other political bodies in the UK and its territories.
It is made up of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Members of the House of Lords are appointed, and Members of the House of Commons are elected by the people. The two Houses meet in separate chambers in the Palace of Westminster (commonly known as the "Houses of Parliament "), in the City of Westminster in London.
