  1. O.k. you have answered all the questions. It’s great. And we can see that you have good knowledge of the UK.

But our competition is not over and we’ll continue to work.

By the way what is the capital of the UK?

(the pupils answer)

Yes. And now we’ll speak about sights of London. But at first I suggest you to listen a poem about London.

(a girl recite a poem)

LONDON

London is beautiful, London is old,

London is foggy, London is cold.

              Buckingham Palace with wonderful halls,

Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and St. Paul’s,

Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Peter Pan,

                Admiral Nelson and Christopher Wren…

Bridges and palaces, faces and rain,

Oh how I wish I could see them again.

Thank you very much. And I ask our juries to give 5 points to “Roses”. But while our teams do the task about sights of London their captains will do their own task. So, captains, come to me. You are to make up as many new words as you can from the name “Great Britain”.

(the captains do the task on the sheets of paper in writing)

And now the teams will answer the questions about London attractions. We’ll also do it in turns. I think “Shamrocks” will begin this time. Our juries will give 1 point to the team if the answer is right.

(the teams answer the questions and do the task on the interactive whiteboard)

Well done. So these are the main London attractions. But not all of them. Once Samuel Johnson, an English critic and a poet, said: “When a man is tired of London he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford” (these words are on the interactive whiteboard). How do you understand these words?

(the pupils answer)

Yes, London is a very busy and the most popular city in the world with its amazing art galleries, museums, shopping centers, beautiful green parks and many other different entertainments. It is visited by 10 million tourists every year and it is a city that is not to be missed and will definitely keep you awake.

  1. The time for our captains is over. Please, pass your  sheets of paper to the juries to score the points. You may join your teams now.

And what about other cities of the UK? Let’s play a little. Your next task is to

guess the name of the city. The juries give 1 point to the teams for the right name.

(the teams make up the names of the cities from separate letters by moving them and do the task on the interactive whiteboard)

CITIES: Liverpool, Brighton, Manchester, Cambridge, Sheffield.

  1. Our competition is coming to the end. I think you are a bit tired. And I suggest you to sing a very beautiful and one of the most famous Scottish songs “My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean”. Let’s sing it together, the words on the screen can help you.

(the pupils sing the song)

  1. Now I ask the juries to announce the score of our competition…

So the team of “Roses”/ “Shamrocks” scored more points. But I think there are no winners today because you like English, you learn it with great pleasure and you have good knowledge of it.

I am very satisfied with your work and I am going to give all of you excellent marks.

And at the end of our competition I would like you to come to the interactive whiteboard and fill this basket with strawberries if you enjoyed the competition. As for me I enjoyed it very much. So I am taking a strawberry and putting it into the basket. And you?

(the pupils take strawberries and put them into the basket by moving them on the interactive whiteboard)

Now we have a basket full of strawberries. It’s great!

Thank you for the competition. Thanks to our juries fore their very hard and important work. Good bye.
