5. Young generation and older generations. Generation gap and different attitudes to learning

- Video ‘Kids today’

- Our students have changed radically.

Mark Prensky an American writer and speaker on learning and education writes in his famous article "On the Horizon" that ‘Today‟s students have not just changed incrementally(постепенно) from those of the past, nor simply changed their slang, clothes, body adornments (украшения), or styles, as has happened between generations previously. One might even call this change a “singularity”( оригинальность, своеобразие, странность, необычность, неповторимость, единственность) – an event which changes things so fundamentally that there is absolutely no going back. This so-called “singularity” is the arrival and rapid dissemination of digital technology in the last decades of the 20th century’.

At home you’ve read the extract from the article "Digital natives, digital immigrants". Answer, please who are called Digital natives, digital immigrants in the article?

- In groups of 3 - put these characteristics into two groups:  Digital natives, Digital immigrants.

- Do you think your students are Digital native? Do you think you are Digital immigrants? Are you ready to change your teaching?

-Video “21st century teacher”

- I hope during next workshops you’ll get some modern techniques and activities helpful and useful for teaching Digital natives.
