The USA

         The United States of America is situated on the North American continent. It is washed by the Pacific ocean and by the Atlantic ocean.

The USA consists of fifty states. The capital of the country is Washington D.C. This is a political center of the country. The Capitol (Капитолий) and the White House (Белый Дом) are situated there. The president lives and works in the White House. This city has many monuments, museums and Art galleries.

The country has many big cities and small towns. The largest city in the USA is New York. There are a lot of skyscrapers (небоскребы) in it. The Stature of Liberty is situated in New York. Other famous cities of the USA are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Atlanta.

The flag of the USA has thirteen red and white stripes and fifty stars - one star for every state and one stripe for every former (бывший) colony.

The most important (важный) American holidays are Thanksgiving Day in November and Independence Day (День Независимости) on the fourth of July. They also celebrate Christmas on the twenty-fifth of December, New Year’s Day, Easter, Mother’s and Father’s Days.

The United States is an interesting country and I would like to visit it some day.
