About the author I am Dmitriy Alexandrov. I am 16.I live in Ruem. I am a student of the 10 th Form of Ruem school. I go to school with pleasure. My favourite subjects are: Russian, Literature, English, Chemistry and Biology. I am always very busy. But when I am free I like to watch TV, go to a swimming pool, go for a walk with my friends, read books and dance. I try to be active, honest, kind and reliable. My motto in the life is - “Actions speak louder than words!”. I always try to remember these words.

Nowadays it is very necessary and important to know a foreign language. I study English at school. English is a world language. More than 350 million people speak English today. It is the official language of the UK, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

English – the language of communication. As for me, I have friends in Canada – Robin and Heather. Knowledge of English helps me to read and understand their letters, to communicate with them, using E-mail. I learn much information about Canada from the native speakers. I think, that it’s a very useful practice of English.

Computer technology is the fastest- growing industry in the world. I need English in order to be able to use the Internet (to send and receive letters, to find information)

English is a language of travelling and tourism. That’s why we must know English very perfectly. If you like travelling you can go anywhere without being afraid that other people won’t understand you. My dream is to go to Great Britain and visit places of interest.

English is the language of science, art, literature. To my mind, if you want to speak English very well, you will read books in original. Of course, it is very difficult. I tried to read detectives of Agatha Christie, but I couldn’t understand all the details. I’ll read them again.

Knowledge of English is a very important thing to get good education and find a good job. I’d like to be an interpreter. It is an interesting profession, because I’ll visit different countries and meet many people.

I learn English, because I know that I can use it during travelling, during working in the Internet. I can speak English with my friends from Canada, I want to read foreign literature in the original, understand English songs, and I can use it in my future profession. Nowadays I have some achievements in English : the 2nd place in Olympiad in our region, took part in the Republic Olympiad, in the competitions “British Bulldog”, some other conferences and competitions. I like English very much. As they say, English opens the door, but I must enter by myself.
