Klin is an old Russian town on the bank of the river Sestra . T he town has a rich history and lots of historic, architectural, cultural sights. The town is located to the north of Moscow, just 70 km from Moscow Ring Road.
When you go to Klin from Moscow, at first you see a column, which has an inscription "78 versts ". In the 19th century the town was located 78 versts from Moscow. Nowadays, the distance between the town and the city is less than 70 km (it’s about 65 versts ).
The population of Klinsky District is 12 7 thousand people, including - 9 6 thousand people in towns ( 75.5% of total), in the villages - 31 thousand people (24.5% of total).
There is a railway station in the town on the way from Moscow to St. Petersburg. There is also a military camp and aerodrome Klin-5.
The Tchaicovsky’s museum in Klin is one of the most popular and visited museums of the world . The museum of Gaidar opened in 1989 in a small wooden house. In this house Gaidar , the writer ,who wrote stories for children lived there In the museum of Mendeleev we can see documents and belonings of Mendeleev and his family.
