  1. Прочитайте текст о рекламируемых путешествиях. Установите соответствие между заголовками 1-5 и абзацами текста.

  1. Travelling with a group
  2. Travelling must be cheap
  3. Travelling by air
  4. Visiting exotic places
  5. The cheapest way of travelling
  6. Different destinations

  1. Travelling is very popular among students in Britain. They don’t have a lot of money, so it has to be cheap. But there are many ways of travelling at low cost.
  2. The cheapest way to travel is hitchhiking, but this isn’t reliable and it can be dangerous. So it’s better to use normal public transport. If you want to travel by train, you can get a student railcard. With this you can get a discount,
  3. If you want to travel by air, this isn’t expensive as it sounds. There are a lot of shops (called, called “bucket shops”) which sell cheap airline tickets to the countries like the USA, Thailand and Australia. They advertise in magazines and newspapers.
  4. Magazines often have adverts for “overland” tours especially to Africa and India, or Latin America. On these tours you travel with a group in a mini-bus. It isn’t very comfortable and you have to share the cooking, but it’s a cheap way to see parts of the world that most tourists never go to.
  5. While British young people are travelling to Africa and the Far East, many young people from Australia and New Zealand travel to Britain. They get cheap airline tickets to London. Then they usually travel around Europe in a mini-van.

FASHION FOR THE FUTURE

In four different laboratories across Great Britain, scientists are already working on fashion for the future. Today we visit them and talk about their ideas.

  1.  First we go to a small university building on the outskirts of Liverpool. Jocelyn Brown, the head of the department, infonns us about their project: clothes which smell. As Brown explains, people can save on antiperspirants and perfume because the clothes produce a nice, fresh aroma.
  2. The next place to visit is a charming village on the coast of Scotland. Our host here is Mandy Wilson who manages the project for the University of Glasgow. Their idea is clothes with a tiny electrical heating system to keep the wearer warm. When it is hot, you can switch the system off and clothes are cool again!
  3.  In Wales, scientists are busy with large sheets of paper-like material. They are producing clothes which the user can paint and decorate any way they like. What's more, it is possible to wash the clothes and paint them once again. Mary Smith, the director of the project, also stresses the fact that these clothes are environmental-friendly.
  4.  But a truly modern idea of clothing is waiting for us in the capital of England, London. Nick Heldon of Fashion Co. presents us with something which looks like a Roman toga, a set of different belts, and a pair of scissors. We put the toga on and can do whatever we like with it: for example, out it very short, or put a belt on.

So the fashion industry is getting ready to face the future. In the meantime, we should try and earn more because it seems that all the ideas are rather expensive.
