They describe actions in the past. We didn’t go to school yesterday . I was doing my homework from 3 till 5 yesterday . My father had washed our dog by 7 p.m. yesterday . One common thing for 3 Past Tenses.
The difference is hidden in the words: yesterday – just informs what happened from 3 till 5 yesterday – tells about actions at a certain period of time by 7 p.m. yesterday - tells about the action completed by a certain period of time What is the difference then?
or stated another way the difference is in the way the action(s) took place: - Simple – names the action - Continuous – describes the action - Perfect – explains the situation in the past What is the difference then?
