“The more we study, the more we know”.

Цели урока:

  • углубление и расширение знаний по теме;
  • совершенствование умений и навыков практического владения английским языком по следующим видам речевой деятельности: аудирование, говорение, чтение;
  • продолжить отрабатывать навыки самостоятельной подготовки задания, творческого подхода к его выполнению;
  • приобщение учащихся к использованию дополнительных источников информации;
  • воспитание самостоятельности и взаимопомощи;
  • формирование стойкой мотивации к предмету;
  • повышение интереса к истории, культуре США, Великобритании, Австралии.

Оснащение урока: медиа комплекс, раздаточный материал, наглядное пособие, карта США, Великобритании, Австралии.

The procedure of the lesson:

  1. Greetings.

Teacher:  Good afternoon, dear guests and students. I’m very glad to see you today. Our today’s lesson isn’t ordinary, but very interesting. Today we are going to talk about three countries. Solving these three riddles you can easily tell me about them.

  • The country with the political union of the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England (which included Wales) – Great Britain.
  • The upside-down world – Australia.
  • This country’s motto is “In God we trust.” – The USA.

Teacher: Right you are students. Now tell e please, what language do people in these countries speak? – English. So, that’s why we are going to talk about these English speaking countries today.

  1. Warm –up. I suggest you studying some interesting fun facts about English. Your task is to choose one card and read aloud the information in it.  

FUN FACTS ABOUT ENGLISH

  • The sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." uses every letter in the English alphabet

  • The shortest sentence in English is “Go!” – it is a complete sentence of only two letters

  • The word “set” has more definitions than any other word in the English language

  • Of all the languages of the world English has the biggest vocabulary – about one million words

  • The longest sentence in English literature is found in James Joyce’s “Ulysses”. It has 4 300 words

  • The 2 most popular English male names are: John and James. The 2 most popular female names are: Mary and Patricia

  • The longest English word without a true vowel (a, e, i, o or u) is "rhythm".

  • The 5 most often used nouns in the English language are: way, thing, day, sound, number

  • The 5 most often used verbs in the English language are: ask, believe, bring, buy, clean
  • The most common letter in English is "e".

  • The word "uncopyrightable" is the longest English word in normal use that contains no letter more than once.

  1. Project. As we work today in three groups, so you are to present your projects to three countries.  Presentation of students’ projects.(The USA, Australia, Great Britain)

Teacher: Now, students, it’s high time to talk about the symbols of these three countries.

  • Great Britain. Let’s deal with the most famous of its symbols.

The country consists of 4 parts: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales

  • Australia.

The big star is called the Commonwealth Star. It has seven points, one for each state and one for the territories. The Australian flag has six stars. The group of five stars to the right form the constellation of the Southern Cross, a valuable navigation aid to early sailors travelling through the southern hemisphere. 

The sixth star, situated below the Union Jack, is known as the Federation or Commonwealth star. It has seven points, with six of the points representing the unity of the six states of Australia, and the seventh representing Australia's two mainland territories

  1. “Relay”

Teacher:  I want you , student, to form three teams. Now you are going to compete. The task is the following: one person from each team will take a card that you can see on the table. There are three table with the names of the countries at the blackboard. Each team will have a chalk of different color. Your task is to write the words in the cards into the right column at the blackboard. The winner will be the team who won’t have any mistakes.
