Official language English is the predominant language and a de facto official language of New Zealand. Almost the entire population speak it either as native speakers or proficiently as a second language.The New Zealand English dialect is most similar to Australian English in pronunciation, with some key differences. The Māori language of the indigenous Māori people was made the first de jure official language in 1987. New Zealand Sign Language has been an official language since 2006. Many other languages are used by New Zealand's minority ethnic communities. New Zealand has three official languages: English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language. .

Climate New Zealand has a largely temperate climate. While the far north has subtropical weather during summer, and inland alpine areas of the South Island can be as cold as – 10°C in winter, most of the country lies close to the coast, which means mild temperatures, moderate rainfall, and abundant sunshine.

Minerals New Zealand has a number of mineral resources, including gold, silver, ironsands , phosphate and limestone. Rock, sand and aggregate resources are also mined for construction uses. Gold rushes occurred in the Otago , the West Coast and Coromandel regions in the 1860s

Animals Little Blue Penguins This species of penguin are the smallest in the world, and among the most adorable.They’re not exclusively to be found in New Zealand, but they’re most densely populated in this part of the world.They’re mostly nocturnal, and congregate in groups of around ten.

Kiwi This interesting bird lives in the thick bushes. It comes out only at night to find food. Kiwis cannot fly. The kiwi is the symbol of New Zealand people. Small children are often called kiwis.
