                             Have You Been Happy at School?

     I can say that I have been happy at school. I like my school our school our school is not big. There are 4 floors in it. On the ground floor you can see cloakrooms, a medical room, a canteen and classroom. The headmaster’s office

The assembly halls, the gym, the teachers’ room classroom of English are on the first floor.

     On the second floor you can see classrooms of Russian, Maths, History, Physics, Russian literature and other subjects.

     The third floor is for computer labs, chemistry labs, and biology lab. Our school has everything for the pupils. Our computer lab we can use for playing and working.

     The walls in my school are white, grey, rose. In every classroom you can see beautiful flowers.

     My favourite subjects are Chemistry, Literature, English. I like these subjects. They are very interesting for me and I am good at these subjects.

     Our teachers offer us many activities. We stage plays in our school theatre, visit theatres  together. Make wall newspapers.

     We also go on excursions to many interesting places with our form masters.

     Our class is very friendly. I usually invite my friends and classmates to my birthday parties. We help each other with difficult subjects. We speak about everything in the world and share all our secrets. It’s great to have so many friends. I spent 8 years at school. I had many friends there. I learnt a lot.

     That is why I can say that I have been happy at my school.

                             What Can Help You to Choose a Profession.

     We have come into the era of information. Now we have a lot of opportunities. There is private and state schools and gymnasiums and schools specializing in different subjects. While choosing a profession, it is very important to make the right choice what we really need. I think that my choice of educational institution must depend on what I want to be in future.

     Our parents can help me. They can tell me about their jobs and other different jobs they know. I think their opinion  is important for me.

     Books can be very useful, because they offer information not only about jobs, but also about educational institutions where you can be trained for this or that profession.

     Mass media, magazines and TV also can help those who want to tern about different professions. There are interesting articles about famous people and you can learn about lives of the films stars, singers, dancers, showmen and e.t. According to this information you can make your own opinion about their profession too.

     I began to think about my future profession at the age of 14. I was born in the family of teachers and doctors. My mother is a teacher and I like this profession too.

     I want to be a teacher of It’s interesting because you work with pupils and they are personalities.

     To be a good teacher means to be highly educated person. I want to be a good specialist.

     So I must be very erudite, kind, patient and good person. I know the proverb: “Like teacher, like pupil” And I will try to follow this proverb.

                    How do you learn about the world around you.

     I like to learn about the world around me. The modern people can learn from different sources such as the Internet, TV and other mass media, book, traveling, visiting museums.

    I’d like to use the Internet because I can find there any information I want, such as information I want about different countries, pop stars songs. I can communicate with children all over the world.

    As for television and other mass media I am critical about them. I don’t like TV, but I like the news on some channels of TV such as the time and today. I learn news when I listen to the radio. I like to listen to the radio, because you can listen to music of different kinds, the news and many other things. In the morning you can listen to the day’s horoscope, songs or some information on the history of our city, you can take part in our intellectual guiz and win a prize. My favourite radio is Russian Radio.

    I know that travelling gives toad for thought. We can learn a lot when we travel. We can see the real world, meet real people. You can ask them different questions, live among them. You can see different plants and animals not in pictures. I am not fond of visiting museums, because you have to listen to the guide; you must not speak or share opinions with your friends.

    Our family has different books of different types. Mother says that books can teach me all my life.

    It is true. Sometimes I use books about travels and adventures. But when I want to rest I read fiction.

    I like to read magazines and newspapers. There I can find information about people, animals, computers.

    I also learn about the world around me at school lessons.

                                              Traveling.

                             What attracts tourists to Russia.

    People like to travel. That’s why there are so many means of travelling. In the past many people traveled because they wanted to sell their goods or exchange the news. Now people want to see the world, to rest, to have impressions.

    Russia is an ancient country with many place of interest. I am afraid many foreigners think that Russians are wild and only know how to drink vodka. Not all tourists know that Russia has many skilful artists, poets. They have produced many masterpieces. Some of them are famous all over the world.

    I’ll take my foreign friends to Moscow, the capital of our country. There are a lot of things to see there. We would begin with Red Square. In Red Square we can see the history of Russia. There is the cathedral of Wassail the Blessed, the monument of Minin and Pozharsky and the Moseley.

    Moscow has about 80 museums. The most famous is the State Teriyaki Gallery. You will see the famous works by Shishkin, Brullov and others. I am fond of Petersburg. I’d like to show them the Hormitage. It’s one of largest museums of the world. There they can see Russian national clothes, dishes and musical instruments. I would often them a trip around the Golden Ring of Russia. It’s interesting for tourists who wants to learn about Russian history and culture.

    There are many other beautiful cities in Russia. Which may be interesting for them. They are Nongorod, Ryazan.

    Russia is a very beautiful country and for foreigners it would be very interesting to see it.

                 What Achievements of Your Country are You Proud of?

    Our Motherland: Russia has great achievements in all fields: technology, science, culture and education.

    One of the great achievements of Russia science is Gagarin’s flight in space. He was the first man in space. People over the world know his smile.

    As the ballet the Russian school of ballet is known all over the world. There are beautiful dancers such as Anna Pawlowa and Maya Plisetskaja and beautiful ballet such as “Spartak” by Hachaturuan. Russian ballet-dancers do very difficult clements. Russian opera is well known too. Ivan Susanin, Ruslan and Ludmila by Glinka are in collection of the best operas of the world. Every year we enjoy Evgeney Onegin by Tchaikovsky. Russian composers: Tchaikovsky, Musorgsky, Rakhmaninov have created beautiful music. Russian modern composers follow their traditions.

     Russian painters created masterpieces which attract tourists from all over the world. They always wanted to express the beauty of Russia in their pictures.

     Russian Literature is known as an example for writers. Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Dostoyevsky are studied at all Russian schools. The world known writer Sholokhov was awarded by Nobel Prize. Vladimir Nabokov wrote the world-famous  novels which have become bestsellers.

     Verses of Russian poets such as Pushkin, Lermontov, Yesenin, Mayakosky are translated into many languages.

It’s a pity Russian cinema is not so well-known in the world.

     My favourite actor is Sergey Bezrukov. He is very talented. My favourite writer is Lermontov. He is well known Russian writer.

                      About what person who glorited our country

                   would you tell your friends from abroad? Whom

                 of the famous people of English-speaking countries

                          do you admire? What made them famous?

    I could tell about many famous persons writers, sportsmen or political. I tell about two famous generals M. Kutuzov and A. Suvorov. All Russian people know their names. A. V. Suvorov was born in 1729. He was a noble, honest man, devoted to his country and his people. He took part in many wars. He had a lot of victories because he knew the army life very well. Suvorov was not a kind general but he had a kind heart. He loved his soldiers and they loved him. His soldiers were never hungry and his officers took care of the soldiers though their life was not easy Suvorov taught his soldiers and officers to be brave; he taught them to win in the battles against the enemy.

    M. Kutuzov was his pupil. His father was engineer in the Russian Army. Little Kutuzov was a kind, clever boy. Their family was very hospitable. Kutuzov had a lot of friends and was an excellent pupil. He was good at Maths and knew many foreign languages. He took part in many battles. He was a brave and honest officer. He believed in Russian soldiers. He taught them the art of winning. When Kutuzov was fourty five years old he became a general. During the war of 1812 Kutuzov fought a lot of battles. The famous battle of battles. The famous battle of Borodino was the first Russian victory of that war. Napolion ran away from Russia. Russia again became free and independent. It made them famous. They were very nobel, brave person. I esteem them and that is why I can tell my foreign friends about them. They glorified my country and I am proud of our generals.

    From the English speaking countries I admire:

    George Washington. He was born in America State of Virginia. He was a son of a rich plantator. George became general at the age of 43 and took part in the War of Independence against Britain During these battles he fought many battles and won a lot of battles in the war of Independence. He was the first US President (1789 – 1797).

    James Cook was a seeman, traveler and discoverer. He made three vogages around the world, discovered a lot of islands in the Pacific Ocean eastern coast of Australia.

                              What would you tell your foreign friends

                               About traditional Russian holidays.

               What do you know about countries holidays in English speaking.

    Russian people have holidays. They love holidays. They are very hospitable. Holidays are state, such a New years Day (the first of January), Constitution Day (the 12th of December), Defender of Motherland Day (the 23 of February), Women’s Day (the 8th of March), May Day (the first of May), Victory Day (the 9th of May). There are also religious holidays, such as Christmas, Easter, Shrove – tide. We celebrate the Day of Knowledge and the Teachers Day.

    New Year’s Day is the main holiday in our country. We prepare for it for a long time – we buy and make presents, discuss the menu. Young people sometimes gather together to celebrate it.

    From History live know that the tradition of celebrated. The New Year’s Day is very old. But Peter the Great ordered to celebrate it on the 1st of January, to decorate houses and rooms with green plants and to make fireworks. The holiday begins when we put up the New Year Free. We prefer natural Trees. I decorate my tree with sweets, cranges and glistenuig glass balls. The holiday is great fun for children. At ten minetes to midnight the President makes his traditional speech. Then we wish each other. Happy New Year and drink champage. It is time for presents. After that we can eat and drink, dance and play games, listen to music.

    May Day used to be a political holiday, but now it is the holiday of spring.

    Victory Day is the Day when we remember the heroic deeds of our grandfathers during the Great Patriatic war. This holiday is celebrated all over the country. Shtrove-tide is loved by everybody. This is the holiday when we see Winter off and greet Spring.

    One more holiday, which grows more and more popular every year among young people is Valentine’s Day, the Day on those who are in love. This holiday has come from the English-speaking countries, where it is very popular chocolates and flowers are popular on this Holiday.

    We know some of the English holidays: the Patrick’s Day, Halloween which have also become traditional American holidays.

    The last Thursday in November is a holiday in America. People call it Thanksgiving Day. People go to church and families come together for the day. They decorate the houses with the fruits and flowers of autumn and prepare traditional American food roast turkey, potatoes and pumpkin.

    My name is Olga. My surname  is Kolosova. I am 15 years old. I was born on 31/02/1999. I am Russian. I live in Moscow. I live with my father, mother and grandmother. I know that British and Americans like to show the photos of their relatives and speak about them. If I go to a foreign country I shall take with me some photos of my family.

    My mother is a doctor. She works at the health center. She is a short woman with light-brown hair and big blue eyes. My mother is a great cooker. When she has time she cooks delicious dishes. She also sings and play piano. I love my mother very much.

    My father is a Russian officer. He is very stron clever. He has gold hands. My father is good at Math. He helps me with it, when I don’t understand the lesson. My grandmother lives with us. I love her very much. She is kind-hearted and understanding. I like to secret with her about everything.

    I am now a pupil of the ninth form. I think I am emotional, attentive. My favourite subjects at school are Chemistry, English, Russian literature. I want to be a teacher of Chemistry.

    I think that it is important to tell about my habits and meals if I am going to live in a family. As for me I love domestic feed more than Mc Donald’s or fast food. And I can tell about my hobby. I like to travel because we like to see the world.

    Our family is very hospitable.

                                   What do you like to read?

    I am fond of reading. My mother taught me to read. When I was 5. since that time she has never had any trouble with me. I began to read the poems of Barton Marshack. I love poetry. I read poems of Russian and English authers, such as Shakespeare.

    When I went to school I learnt to use dictionaries and reference book. For school lessons I read mostly classical fiction and history books. For my English lessons I read chapters of different English books.

    Non-fiction books contain real information and are used for education and work. They are reference books dictionaries, scientific reports, textbooks and encyclopaedias. Here we can find facts about different objects and famous people, about countries  and animals. Biographies are a good sourse of information. Somrtimes they can also be a pleasant reading. Historical books describe different epochs and reigns of kings and queens. Fiction books are written to give pleasure.

    My favourite book is Jane Air. It is written by Wapuoma Bpohme.

    I like fairy tail. When I read them I feed myself happy.

                                   What do you think about television?

    Television is one of the newest types of mass media. I think it is one of the most popular mass media. Now almost every family has a TV set. Some families have several TV sets. We have a big TV set in the sitting room and one in the kitchen.

    Now people discuss if television is bad or good, but I think TV has its advantages.

    Speaking about the advantages of having a TV set, I must say, that it is very convenient. You can watch new programmes and weather forecasts several times a day and see the changes. We watch sport events, such as Olympic games and sports competitions together. Mother and I like figure skating. Father enjoys watching football matches. You know, the tickets are expensive and most of the events are in other cities. If there were no TV we would never be able to see so many sport events. There sport events. There are many good films on TV, for children and grow-ups.

    As for me I like music shows. But we must consider the disadvantages of TV. If you watch TV too much, it can ruin your eye-sight and make you stuped. I mast also say that some people are TV addicts. They watch and watch, they do not live. They don’t go for a walk, they don’t read. As for me, if there is a good film I can do my homework befor or after it. All in all I can say that our life without TV would not be so interesting, but we must not become TV addicts.

                                   What do you do in your free time?

    Students  usually do not have much free time because they have to go to college  and to do homework. We also help our parents about the house-with washing, cleaning and cooking. As for me I like cooking.

    Some teenagers spend a lot of time indoors. They watch TV or play computer games. Some like to be alon so they knit, sew, read and watch video-films, Internet. Some boys and girls can do that for hours. I do not like this kind of rest. I like to be with other people.

    In big cities some teenagers gather in gangs, because they have nothing to do. They break everything they see, with on walls. It is called vandalism. But these “gangsters” can get into a trouble. Most of students like to be together and meet their friends. There are lost of interesting things for us to do! English and American teenagers, as well as Russian like to go to the cinema, walk and talk. Some children are fans of a music group or a singer. They collect posters and records, visit concerts. Many children in Britain and the USA use the Internet to find the information about their  pop-stars. Many Russian and foreign children like to go in for sports. They play football, tennis, rugby, golf, baseball. I would not like to join a sport team. I want to play jast for fun not to become a champion. I know that many teenagers earn money. They work in a shop, supermarket. The best way to rest for me is to listen to music and dance. I also like reading.

                                   What music do you listen to?

    There are many musical styles. Some of them are popular among young people. Others are popular with groun-ups. I think we like music because music experesses some idias which are important for us. That is why different people like different music styles.

    For example, the music of Mozart. Now it is call classical music. Everyone admires Mozart, both the young and old. But for this time Mozart was a revolutionary, he reformed the opera. I think young people all over the world like classical musical music. My favourite classical composer is        . Classical music is international, but every nation has its own music, folk music. The British are very fond of their folk music. They hold special Folk festivals, where the young people learn about their national culture.

    There are special musical styles. One of them is jazz. I know that jazz appeared as the music of black orchestras in the southern states of the USA. I like jazz compostions because they are rhythmical it is easy to dance to them.

    Still most of young people like light music, such as pop, rock, rock’n roll. Some like heavy metal and rap.

    I like pop music, because it is light. The songs of my favourite groups “Fabrica” and “Korne” are very melodical; they have good voices. Their songs are romantic and sweet. I also like to dance. Pop music is very rhythnucal and it is easy to dance to it.

                                   Sports in Great Britain and in the USA

     The British and Americans like sports very much. They believe that sport keeps them fit and healthy.

     There are several well known and popular British sports. They are cricket, golf, horse-rasing, boat-raising, boxing and ather sports. The Americans love basketball and baseball. But both the British and the Americans are fond of football. It is a team game.

     Rugby (or rugger) is a team game too. It was first played in the city named Rugby. That is why it is called rugby. The rules of the game are different from football and there are 15 players instead of 11 in the football team.

     The national British sport is cricket. In England cricket is played in schools and universities and all villages.

     Swimming is also popular in Great Britain. Many children in Britain learn to swim at school or during the holidays at the seaside.

     The national American sport is baseball. Basketball is among the favourite sports of American young people. There are basketball teams in all American schools. The most popular sports in Russia are football, hockey and figure skating. Russia is known for its gymnast, chess players and skiers.

     There are no spotsmen in my family. My father used to go in for football and chess, when he was young. Holidays he watches all football and hockey matches that are shown on TV. My mother and I prefer spectator sport, such as figure skating. I also walk a lot. I think walking is the best sport.

                                   To take part or to watch?

     Millions people in the world speak about sport. About one third of them watches sport events on TV or listens to sports. I think both groups have their reasons.

     Those who goes in for sports say that it keeps them fit. They feel healthy. They have good figures. There are other work hard. You have to be strong. You also learn how to to be well-organized and disciplined. You can visit different cities and countries.

     But most of people do not go in for sports. They have their reasons too. One of the most important reasons is that sport takes much time. If you want to be a sportsman, you have to exercise every day or several times a week. Going in for sports can cause many injuries. This is very dangerous. I know that most of the gymnasts become seriously ill.

     As for me, I prefer to do some exercises every day. I am not fond of sports. So I would rather watch than participate.

                                   What do you do to be healthy?

     To be healthy is very important. You can work, learn and have fun only when you are healthy.

     As for me, the healthy way of life does not mean to look like a top model or a ballet-dancer. The human body needs a little fat. So, the first rule of healthy way of life is to have normal weight.

     There are two ways to do so. You сan regulate your diet and your exercise.

     People in all times understood how important food is to be healthy you need vitamins and fibre. You should eat fruit and vegetable. The English say “An apple a day keeps the doctors a way”. You can find fibre in plants. As for me, I eat fruit or vegetables every day. In the evening I usually have tranges apples or bananas. There are things you should not eat much. They are chocolate, cakes and sweets. They have much fat and sugar. Physical exercises help you keep feet. As for me I try to do exercises, to walk. For example, if you can walk or go by bus, I choose to walk. There are also some bad habits, which can run your health. They are smoking, drinking, using, drugs.

                                   The Protection of Nature

     About 2 hundred years ago man lived in harmony with nature. Industry was not developed. Today the contradictions between man and nature are dramatic. People of many cities suffer from smong. Forests are disappearing. The pollution of the air, oceans, seas, rivers and lakes could lead our planet to a global catastrophe. The eath is out home, that is why we must take care of it for the next generations. We must keep our environment clean.

     More than 20 years ago pulp-and-paper factory was built on the shore of Lake Baikal. As a result because of the water pollution the ecological system of the lake changed. Some organismus that can be found in the lake Baikal are disappearing, trees are clying from the dust and gas.

     So writers, scientists workers put the problem of the Lake Baikal in the press, and in government. There is a hope that one of the most beautiful and the deepest lakes of the world will never die. There are many other places on our planet that need immediately help. Each of us must do everything possibly to keep the land, air and water clean.

                      Have you got any problems with people around you.

     There are many problems that young people have to face, when they stop being children. At this age all feelings and emotions are very strong, all problem seem very important.

     Some teenagers meet problems with their parents. Some parents do not understand their children, because their children need to buy certain things, listen to centain music. They think that we are babies but we are 15, 16 years old. I never meet misunderstanding from the side of the teachers. They think that youth is given for studying. But a person who only studies is dull.

     The problem of education is very serious. There are many educational institutions at present, but the guality of training is different. Some of them are state, while others are private. It is great problem to find a suitable university and a profession.

     The problem of money is important as well I think young people need to have poket money for buying clothes some books, ice-cream. Most of feenagers are working deiring academic year.

     Young people have many health problems. Sometimes they begin using drugs and become drug addicts. I think that is terrible.

     As for me I have some problems too. Sometimes I meet misunderstanding from the side of my friends. But very soon we make a compromise. I think it is normal. But I think that each people have problems and it is our life.

                                   Why study English?

     There are many languages in the world. Some languages are spoken by many people. Other languages are spoken by a few people, for example, languages of Native Americans. Some languages are very difficult, some are easy. English is spoken by many people as their native language all over the world, in Great Britain, the USA, Malta, India, Australia, many African states, Canada. Many states call English their official language.

     But English is also the language of international communication. English is now the language used in computers and other electric devices. Many books are in English. English is the language of many international organizations.

     But there are some other reasons. First of all it is interesting to understand your own language better, if you can compare two languages. Second you can learn about some other countries: Great Britain, the USA because these countries are very interesting. I like to learn how people live in those countries.

     We study English because it is taught at schools, colleges and universities. It is difficult  to work well if you do not know a foreign language.

     I want to learn English because it is interesting and it will help me to find a good job in future. I have been studying English for many years. I am good at English.
