Areas of Business and Careers in Business.

There are now 5 broad fields or areas of business that offer exciting careers. They are:

  • management
  • marketing
  • accounting
  • finance
  • data processing

Management is the process of running, governing and controlling some business.  The board of directors of a company works in the area of management.

The main aim of marketing is to find out what consumers want and to provide them with it.

Marketing is:

  1. identifying consumer needs through market research and producing the goods or services that satisfy these needs;
  2. delivering the produced goods and services, from the manufacturer to customers.

Marketing involves:

  • developing the right product
  • pricing it attractively
  • promoting it
  • distributing it to the customers.

These are the basic elements of the marketing mix, the 4 P’s: PRODUCT, PRICE, PROMOTION and PLACE.

Accounting is recording the incomes, expenses and the overall financial position of a company.

Finance is the management of money matters.
