Passive Presentation
Can you make tea? If you can't, read and learn:
1. Some water is heated until it boils.
2. Some tea is added into the water and the teapot is kept warm for 5 minutes.

How paper is made
Most paper is white but there are other colourful kinds. Paper is made from trees. First big and old trees are cut by people or machines. Then these trees are carried to paper mills. Paper mills are factories.There, these trees are cut into very small pieces , and in order to make the colour white, lime is added. That's why most paper is white.
The Story of Umbrella
The umbrella was invented by the Chinese in 11 BC. The early Chinese umbrellas were made from wood and leaves and feathers. They were used for the sun, not the rain. They were used only by rich people. In 1730 a Frenchman designed an umbrella made from oilcloth.It was made to keep out the rain. Then in 1874Samuel Fox invented the modern umbrella. It was named the "brolly".

Present Perfect Passive:
Belcombe used to be an unspoilt village on the south coast of England but you wouldn't recognize it now.They have developed it as a tourist resort-and they have completely destroyed the old atmosphere. Causative 'have' and 'get'
Get is stronger than have (and contains a stronger idea of action by the subject)
I must get this car serviced soon.
I finally got my roof repaired.
Get sounds more natural than have in the imperative:
Get your hair cut! Get your eyes tested!
Why don't you have your hair cut? (neutral suggestion)
Why don't you get your hair cut? (almost an order)
PASSIVES
Your steak is being grilled and will be ready in a minute.
This wallet was found in the street.
The company has sent Smithers to California for a year.
passive: Smithers has been sent to California for a year.
Tom gave me (indirect) a pen (direct), can have two passive forms:
I was given a pen by Tom. (indirect object becomes subject)

Adverbs of manner
This room has been badly painted/painted badly.
English often uses the passive where other European languages use reflexive verbs: burn myself, hurt myself, etc.
