-to provide restricted and freer  practice of using PPr and PPerf




-Get s-s to imagine they are in a restaurant in GB but they do not remember the names of the dishes.

-Give s-s the cards with some dishes and get them to explain each other what they want in pairs ( giving an example if necessary)

-s-s complete the task.

-get s-s to imagine they are going to order some dishes without speaking English.

-Elicite some ways out.



-set task: Today we are going to read a story about two Americans who were travelling in Spain and their problems connected with ordering meal.

Read the story (Appendix I) very fast and complete the sentence in Ex 1. I’ll give you 2 minutes. Then compare with your partner.

-students read quickly and complete the task.

-check answers with their partners then whole class feedback.


-set task: Read the text more carefully and do Ex2. I’ll give you 5-7 minutes. Then compare with your partner.

 -students read the text again and complete the task.

-check answers with their partners

-set task: answer the questions in Ex3. I’ll give you 3 mins.

-s-s complete the task.

-elicite the answers

-clarifying and checking meaning of TL (Past Perfect and Past Progressive) by using a timeline and CCQs.

-clarifying pronunciation and drill (contracted form)

-clarifying form

-give students practice of using the appropriate tenses

(they answer the questions: What were you doing yesterday at 6 p.m. ? What had you done yesterday by 11 p.m.? (using some useful expressions.))

s-s can do it in turns like in the game “Snowball” or ask each other in pairs and tell the others then about their partners.


Appendix I

 Two Americans were travelling in Spain. One morning they entered a little restaurant for lunch. They didn`t know Spanish, however, and the waiter did not know English. So they tried to make him understand that they wanted some milk and sandwiches.

   At first they pronounced the word “milk” many times. Then they spelled it. But the waiter still could not understand.

   At last one of them took a piece of paper and began to draw a cow. He was just finishing his drawing, when the waiter looked at it and ran out of the restaurant.

   “You see”, said the traveler who had drawn the cow, “what pencil can do for a man who has difficulties in a foreign country.”

   After some time the waiter was back, but he brought no milk. He put down on the table in front of the two men two tickets for a bullfight. (Английский язык. 9 и 11 выпускные классы. Учебное пособие./Н.И. Петрова-М.: АСТ-ПРЕСС ШКОЛА, 2003)

Appendix II
