Alena had a special task. She is a journalist at the local TV company. Let’s listen to her report about our school.

P: We go to school №17. It is a gymnasium. We have very experienced teachers in our school. They like their job and teach us very well. Stasjuk Elena Valerjevna is a head teacher of our school. She is a World Culture teacher.

We have classes 6 days a week. When children are 7 they go to the primary school where they spend four years. Pupils learn to write, to read and to count there. They often play different games.

Maths is a very difficult subject. Some pupils have problems with Maths and our teacher helps to solve these problems.

We like literature because we read a lot of interesting books by Russian and foreign writers and our teacher tells a lot about their life and work.

History is a very interesting subject. We learn many facts about past and present. During our History lessons we discuss different problems, ask a lot of questions and our teacher always answers them.

IT is a very interesting and difficult subject. We can’t live without computers. They became a part of our life. The Internet is not only the assistant in our daily work it is also the world in which there are libraries, photo galleries, games.

At biology lessons we learn about nature, about animals and plants. Sometimes we do experiments and our teacher helps us.

At Geography lessons we travel around the world, visit different continents and countries, learn about people, their customs and traditions.

We study two foreign Languages: English and German. We usually learn new words, read, translate and discuss texts, learn English and German poems by heart, play games at our lessons. Our teachers explain us grammar rules, correct our mistakes.

Our teachers are serious, friendly, clever and understanding. We like our school and our teachers.

Eton College

Some schools in Britain are very famous, usually because they have a lot of history. Take Eton College, for example. It’s a public school and it’s over 570 years old! Students start when they are 13 and finish when they are 18. Eton is a boarding school. That means that the students live in the school. Only boys go to Eton.

At the moment, Eton is popular with the British Royal family. Prince William and Prince Harry are old Eton students. Royal families from Africa and Asia send their children to Eton and a number of British Prime Ministers are “Old Etonians”. And some fictional characters are old Eton students too – the secret agent James Bond, 007, for example. You need a lot of money to study at Eton. The school is expensive. It costs approximately £30,000 a year to study there.

Tradition is important in Eton. The students and the teachers wear a special uniform which is very formal. The students don’t call the teachers "teachers” they call them beaks. All the students study Latin for minimum one year. The classes are often small; they have just ten students in some lessons. 30% of the students go to Oxford or Cambridge University when they finish their studies at Eton.

Sport is very popular at Eton. They play normal sports, but they also play games which only exist at Eton – one is called the Eton Wall Game. The Eton Wall Game is a very physical type of football. Actually, Eton is one of the first schools in the world to play football. It’s interesting that another popular sport comes from an old English public school. The name rugby comes from Rugby School. The first written rules for this sport came from Rugby School in 1870.

T: The students and the teachers wear a special uniform in Eton. Please, read the text about school uniforms and fill the gaps with the correct derivative of the words in bold.
