Britain is home to thousands of must-see historical attractions, but for most kids, history is not their idea of fun. So, here are some of Britain's best fun historical attractions with something for everyone.
Where: Surrey. The oldest Tudor palace in England with many attractions including the Tudor kitchens, tennis courts, maze and State Apartments and King's Apartments. The Gardens at Hampton Court are spectacular and although a recent development, are now receiving national recognition.

For kids: children can see the actors in full Tudor costume wandering about the place. It is like a masquerade.
Where: York.  A magnificent 18th century house with world-class gardens proudly displaying seasonal collections of beautiful flowers.  Castle Howard is one of the grandest private residences in Britain, most of it was built between 1699 and 1712. It is not a true castle, but this term is often used for English country houses constructed after the castle-building era and not intended for a military function.

For kids: there are weekend activity workshops during the school holidays. Families can take a boat trip on the great lake.
Where:  Greenwich. Museum of time and space, built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675, and site of the Greenwich Meridian. The Observatory galleries disclose the extraordinary phenomena of time, space and astronomy.
The Royal Observatory

Where:  Kew. Kew Gardens complex is a world heritage site located in 121 hectares of stunning view and 6 magnificent glasshouses set in a beautiful landscape beside the river Thames.  It is home to a remarkable collection of over 30,000 types of plants from all over the world.
The Royal Botanic Gardens
For kids: Kew has developed a sleepover experience for groups of children aged 8—11. The kids go on a midnight walk around the grounds before gathering round the campfire for marshmallows and stories.
Where:  Nottinghamshire.  Once part of a royal hunting forest, Sherwood Forest covers 450 acres and incorporates some truly ancient areas of native woodland.  There are more than one thousand veteran oaks there most of which are over 500 years old. The largest and most famous of these is the Major Oak, linked throughout the world to Sherwoods legendary hero Robin Hood.

Where:  Berkshire  Hood Windsor is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Its rich history is almost 1000 years.  It was originally built by William the Conquerer in the 11th Century and has seen many changes and fortifications by English monarchs over the years. Windsor Castle is a working palace and may be closed for State functions so visitors are advised to check opening times before they visit.
