Teacher (Т): Dear friends! During two last years we have mainly discussed the problems concerning teenagers and their relations with the world around them: classmates and teachers, friends and parents, neighbours and many other people they meet every day. You have read, listened and spoken about the life of young people in English-speaking countries and tried to compare the information with your own experience. Today we are going to summarize what you have learned about the subject and discuss some urgent questions you are concerned about. We invited our school psychologist, who is also an English teacher, to take part in the discussion. We hope she will help us to reveal some problems young people face nowadays, and give you some advice how to cope with them. Perhaps, all together we'll understand that nobody can be indifferent to this problem. Maybe, we'll find some solutions.

But before starting our discussion, let's brainstorm what you associate with the theme "A Teenager and the World around Him".

Т: Well, now we'll see a Word Web presentation a group of our students prepared.

What Is Good and What Is Bad about Being a Teenager?"

Is it easy to be young?

"Happiness is а good mood, harmony, similarity and imper-turbableness".

T: Let's think over the motto of our lesson. Here you can see some English and Russian proverbs. Can you match them?

Handsome is as handsome does.

It never rains but it pours.

Actions speak louder than words.

What goes around comes around.

Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you.

Psychologist (helps the students to choose the motto of the lesson):

You can see some proverbs on the blackboard. Which of them do you think reflects the topic of our lesson or your attitude to the problem best of all?

Т: I'd like to begin our discussion with a short poem by Albert E. Kahn. Will you recite it?

Pupil (P): I claim the human right to live.

I claim the human right to love.

I claim the human right to work.

I claim the right of every child to eat.

Psychologist: You can see that this short poem deals with the problem of humans and equal rights. The writer proclaims the right for everybody to live happily on earth. The young are usually considered to be less protected citizens. Is this always right? Let's discuss.

T: You know we are going to have a talk show today. You will work in groups. Divide into four groups, please.

Т: Don't you agree that every person is unique and special? Would you like to finish our discussion with a poem "People Are Strange"?

Р1:

People are strange!

Are we programmed to hurt?

In every dark corner

A prejudice lurks.

P2:

Why do we do this? What do we gain?

Nothing but anguish, sorrow and pain.

People are dying, people are killed But somewhere, someone's wallet is

filled.

P3:

Our children are innocent,

Untouched and safe,

But one day soon, they'll inherit

Our hate.

P4:

We have to change things before

It's too late.

We only have one world and we

Determine its fate.

Psychologist: Now I am playing two roles. My first role is a Social Psychologist, and my second role is your English teacher.

Nowadays more and more social problems are associated with being young. Today it is considered appropriate to talk about teenage problems. A few years ago alcohol, drugs, murders and other kinds of violence were more problems for adults than for young people. But now, as official reports admit, violence, AIDS, drugs and alcohol are more and more associated with youngsters. These things are often combined with family and school problems. While discussing the article, you've heard a lot of different opinions, but nobody admitted he or she was guilty of the crime. Perhaps, we should all share responsibility. I am afraid adults are not tolerant of immigrants, and their children inherit racial hatred.

We are worried about a series of attacks against immigrants, including foreign students, in St. Petersburg, Voronezh and other cities of Russia. And I am sorry to say that our quiet small town joined the list. Do you remember the tragic events in Salsk last summer? We think some of the attacks racially motivated. Lack of tolerance is a great problem nowadays.

-        Принятие другого мнения;

-        Проявление сочувствия и сострадания;

Psychologist: Your parents, your teachers and your true friends care about your life, help solve your problems, protect you against violence and cruelty. But you often disagree with their opinions. Why do you think young people protest against your parents' opinions, against public rules?

Psychologist: A lot of adults say that today's teenagers really do nothing. They just sit round and listen to loud music. They are immoral and indifferent. Remember the words of the famous Polish writer Bruno Yasensky: "You should be afraid of indifferent people...".

Т: We have spoken a lot about violence, aggression and other bad things but let's remember that youth is a wonderful thing that you only have once. Be positive and tolerant, enjoy your youth.

Please, open your notebooks and look through the words of wisdom by famous people. Which ones do you associate with being young?

Psychologist: What illnesses does our society have? Our group is a small model of our society. Every person has got good and bad points. A good man is a person who recognises his drawbacks. Very often they are mixed because human nature is very complicated. And he realizes and tries to improve himself. Today we are going to test our nature.

Т: We are going to act out the test, and after that the meaning of the test will be interpreted.

Girl: Oh, Father, dear! I can't forget my late beloved. I will never love anybody else.

Father: He is dead, but you are alive. I want you to be happy. This gentleman is kind, honest and noble. Besides, he is very rich and he loves you.

Girl: Oh, Father! Let me stay with you! Don't make me marry this gentleman!

Father: Don't you remember I have obliged him my life? You can't refuse him.

Girl: Well, Father, I will obey only for your sake.

Scene IV

Postman: I have a letter

                From a friend,

He lives in a distant land.

                He sends a kiss

                And a letter here –

It is for you, my dear.

Scene V

Girl: Oh, Father dear! Look! I've got a letter from my beloved. He is mortally wounded and wants us to make our farewells before he dies. Please, let me go and see him!

Father: Oh no, my darling. It's impossible. Your wedding is coming and the guests have arrived. It is improper to leave home on the eve of the wedding.

Girl: Please, Father, let me go! I promise you to come back. He is dying, I must go and say farewell to him.

Father: Well, I feel sorry for you... But the gentleman... You can't offend him. Ask him, and if he lets you go, I'll agree.

Scene VI

Girl: Oh, sir! Can you let me go to see my former fiance? He is mortally wounded, he is dying. I must go and say farewell to him. I promise you to come back.

Scene VII

Girl: Dear guests, I must go and see my beloved. He is dying. Can you let me go? I promise you to come back.

Guest1: We feel sorry for you both. But what about the cook?

Guest2: He is the best cook in the country and he's been waiting for your wedding to show off his skill

Guest3: All the dishes will go bad and his efforts will be wasted.

Guest4: Ask the Cook and if he lets you go, we'll agree.

Scene VIII

Girl: Dear Cook! I must go and say farewell to my beloved. He is dying. Please, let me go. I promise to come back.

Cook: Oh, my darling. I have known you since you were a child. I feel sorry for you both. Please, go and come back as soon as possible. God bless you, my dear.

Scene IX

Robbery1:  Oh, what a nice girl!

Robbery2:  She seems to be very rich!

Robbery1: Give us everything you have: the horses and coach, the money, the jewellery, your beautiful dress!

Robbe2: Be quick, or we'll take your life.

Girl: On, gentlemen! I'm in a hurry. My beloved is dying and I must come in time to say farewell to him. Besides, I'm engaged to the gentleman who saved my father. A lot of people are waiting for my wedding. I have to go back as soon as possible. Please, take everything I have, but let me go.

Robbery2: We see you are a noble young lady. Take back your things and go to your beloved.

Girl: Thank you, gentlemen!

Scene X

Girl: Dear sir! You are the only person to help me. Please, take me across the river.

Boater: Sorry, but I can't do it now. Some years ago I was seriously ill and I promised the Blessed Virgin to sleep only once every three days for my recovery. You see, I haven't slept for more than three days as I had to take the whole army across the river.

Girl: You see, my beloved is waiting for me there, across the river. He is dying and I must say farewell to him.

Boater: But we could drown because I am very tired.

Girl: Oh, dear, help me! I am afraid my beloved will die without saying our farewells.

Boater: Well, let's try, God willing.

Scene XI

Fiance: Oh, my sweetheart! I had to deceive you to make you come. I was missing you and looking forward to our meeting. Please, don't leave me! Let's go far away together for the sake of our love! I love you so much!

Girl: No, I can't go away with you, though. I love you more than life. But I am obliged to so many people! They all made sacrifices for our meeting. I can't break my have to come back.

Fiance: So, we have to depart. Farewell, my sweetheart. I will love you for life.

Girl: So will I. Farewell, my love.

Love Me Tender» by Elvis Presley.

Psychologist: I hope you enjoyed the performance. Who do you think sacrificed more to let the young people meet? Think to yourselves. You shouldn't say anything yet.

The Bible described SEVEN DEADLY SINS: pride (гордыня, тщеславие), lechery (блуд, похоть), envy (зависть, ревность), anger (гнев), covetousness (сребролюбие), gluttony (чревоугодие), sloth (леность).

Father symbolizes Anger

Gentleman - Envy

Guests - Gluttony

Cook -Pride

Robbers - Covetousness

Boater - Sloth

Fiance - Lechery

Т: Love conquers all and makes the world go round. Would you like to finish our lesson with some poetry: Shakespeare is sonnet?

Teenage Gang Beats Shopkeeper to Death

An Indian immigrant who spent 20 years working to open the shop of his dreams has died after being beaten up by a gang of teenagers who helped themselves to a $4.99 football.

The gang jeered at Kombra Divakaran, 43, when he chased them on to the pavement outside his new shop in Bayswater, west London. They then kicked and beat him.

Surgeons at the National Neurological Hospital tried desperately to save his life, but his injuries proved too severe.

His attackers are said to include a stocky girl, aged 14 or 15, with long brown hair who was "loud and aggressive". Police are also anxious to interview a boy about 6ft 1in tall, with short hair. The gang included at least two others.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Petra said: "It's absolutely mindless that this gentleman appears to have died because of a cheap plastic football."

He revealed that a fortnight ago Mr. Divakaran was racially abused by youths who came into his shop, and the killing may have been racially motivated. "But at this stage we still believe he was probably attacked because he was brave enough to intervene when these people tried to steal his property."

Mr. Divakaran, who emigrated from New Delhi, gradually developed his shopkeeping acumen until he was able to open the City Bargain Book Store in Queensway, selling books and football gear.

A father of three, Mr. Divakaran was renowned as a man of gentle character. Sarina Sapatereiro, 20, a travel consultant at the nearby branch of ThomasCook said: "He was the nicest person. It always brought a smile to his face when you walked into the shop."

The area often turned ugly at night, according to George Chaidoulis, manager of an optician's. He added: "Shoplifting is common around here. Many young people come here in groups late in the evening. I was waiting for something like this to hap¬pen."

At the time of the attack on Sunday, Mr. Divakaran had been working late on his own, said Mr. Sidhu. "There is always trouble
