Ход урока

1. Warm-up Discussion

T: Dear boys and girls!

Some people say that living in the city is  better than living in the country, but another people disagree with this statement. Today we’ll have a debate-lesson. I welcome you here this morning to discuss this interesting theme. How about you? Do you agree with this statement?

2. Main part. Debate Procedure.

Time-Keeper: So let me open the debate. The motion is English – “Living in the city is better than in the country”

. It is proposed by the first team. So, the floor is given to P1. Time: 4 minutes.

1. Proposer 1

Good afternoon.

Let me introduce my team and myself. I am P1, the first speaker. The second speaker in our team is P2. And the third speaker is P3.

Throughout history, the world has experienced urbanization but the huge rise in the number of people making their homes in towns and cities is a recent phenomenon. Today people all over the world are moving out of small villages to go and live in big and noisy cities. More and more people, especially young and well educated, decide to live in large cities rather than in villages.

Our team presents the points for the motion of the debate.

Our first argument for the motion is good education

The city offers many opportunities to young people. Children living in the city can get a good education, because a big city has more opportunity to choose a good and famous school.  First of all, they can attended there the best universities and use the best learning resources which will allow them to develop their knowledge and skills. The students have museum classes and excursions. They can attend lectures and preparatory courses and therefore have more chances to enter this or that university. After graduating from the university the residents of big cities more likely to find a prestigious and well-paid job, than the outsiders. They are more communicative, more experienced and have more friends, relatives and to help them. In the city people have more chances to succeed. .

The next advantage of living in a big city is developing your career. Furthermore, a big city has more opportunity to find a good job with high salary because there are a large number of companies, corporations, businesses... in a big city. There are a lot of working places in the city.

Good educational background increases their chances to find employment in good companies which will offer them lucrative posts. This shows that People who are ambitious and want to be successful and pursue their careers find in the city many possibilities to realize their potential and to gain the best professional experience. . Ambitious people and those who want to climb a career ladder will feel themselves in their cup of tea in the city, where using city’s opportunities they will full fill their dreams.

Our third argument is that cities provide their inhabitants with limitless sources of entertainment. People can socialize in cafes, pubs, cubs or take part in various cultural events, like for example concerts, art exhibitions or spectacles in the theatre. Moreover, the can enjoy shopping in large shopping centres or department stores. All these charms and attractions of the city are appealing to people. For some people having dinner with friends in a fancy restaurant is a perfect Sunday evening out, which cannot happen in the country.

Time-Keeper: Your time is over. Thank you. Now the floor is given to the second team. Would you like to take time-out to discuss questions to the speaker?

Opposer 3: Yes, I’d like to take time-out for 2 minutes.

Time-Keeper: Time is over. I welcome O3. Your questions, please. Time: 1,5 min.

2. Opposer 3

Proposer 1: Thank you for your questions. I try to answer them (Proposer 1 answers).

Time-Keeper: Time is over. Thank you. The motion is opposed by the second team. The floor is given to O1. Time: 4 minutes.

3. Opposer 1

Good morning, ---------------------, Time-Keeper and dear colleagues!

I’d like to introduce myself and our team. I’m O1, the first speaker. This is O2, the second speaker and O3 is our third speaker.

We can’t agree with the motion of the debate.

Life in the country, without horns honking, industrial pollution and the busy night life of cities, is considered by some people as the greatest way to live.

The countryside is not only a beautiful place to live but, depending on where you are located, the cost of living may be less expensive than in towns or cities.

Fresh air

The countryside is generally quiet and peaceful. There isn't as much traffic or smog or pollution from industry.

You are fit and you don't need to worry about your health condition, because in the countryside the air and water are so clean.

Rural life is peaceful and healthy

Furthermore, life in the country is slower sopeople there have time for each other. As a result, they tend to be friendlier and more open. If you need help, people always have time to help you.

Ecologically speaking, the advantages to living in the country include eating locally grown food;

Herepeople are friendly and it is much more pleasant in the countryside than in the city. Less traffic (noise)

There are fewer cars so there is less pollution. To be close to nature

Depending on where you live in the country, you can have mountain views, lake views, ocean views or pasture-like scenes right outside your door.

One is closer to nature and can enjoy more peace and quiet.

In the country you are free to admire the breathtaking landscapes such as huge meadows, peaceful hills or forests. You can enjoy walking in the forest and picking mushrooms or hunting

Time-Keeper: Time is over. Thank you. The floor is given to the proposers. Would you like to take time out? If yes, you can use 2 minutes to consult each other.

Your time out is over. Welcome with questions, please. Time: 1,5 minute.

4. Proposer 3

The speaker tried to change our minds saying …

But I’d like to hear the answers to the following questions. (Proposer 3 asks questions)

Opposer 1 answers them.

3. Conclusion. Homework
