Цель урока развитие устной речи по теме "Еда", развитие грамматических навыков по теме "Сослагательное наклонение"/ Предполагается просмотр презентации и видеоматериалов при некоторых переходах от одного этапа урока к другому. Видео можно подобрать на сайте www.youtube.ru, к сожалению подборка, сделанная мною не загружается из-за большого объёма информации.

Урок в 10  классе

Тема: "Food. Conditional sentences."

Цель: обучение устной речи по теме, развитие грамматических навыков

Задачи:

a) воспитательные: воспитывать у учащихся чувство уважения к культуре страны изучаемого языка

б) образовательные: провести практику речевой деятельности, совершенствовать грамматические навыки;

в) развивающие: развитие творческой фантазии и инициативы в осуществлении иноязычной речевой деятельности, а также развитие познавательных интересов учащихся и умения сотрудничать в осуществлении совместной деятельности.

Оборудование: мультимедийная техника

I.Орг. момент. Good afternoon, children. All living beings need food, because it is the basic fuel of our life. It keeps us warm, gives us energy and helps kids to grow healthy. Look at the pictures and say what the topic of our lesson will be. (Food) Today we are going to speak about healthy and unhealthy food, discuss your favourite dishes, traditional dishes of our country, may be share recipes and we are going to review conditional sentences. We shall start with the pronunciation drill. Listen and repeat.

"If all the seas were one sea...”

If all the seas were one sea,
What a
great sea that would be!
If all the trees were one tree,
What a
great tree that would be!
If all the axes were one axe,
What a
great axe that would be!
If all the men were one man,
What a
great man he would be!
And if the
great man took the great axe,
And cut down the
great tree,
And let it fall into the
great sea,
What a
great splash-splash that would be!

We shall continue our work with the story “The king and the dragon.” Listen to it and try to predict the second part of If sentences.

II. Речевая зарядка.

THE KING AND THE DRAGON

(a tale)

Once upon a time there lived a king who wanted to be famous. One day he thought, "If I find and kill a dragon, I will be famous. And if I'm famous, I will marry the princess I love. All fairy tales say that if a man kills a dragon and becomes a hero, he marries a beautiful princess". So he took his sword and left his castle to look for a dragon.

The king went on and on and on until one day he saw a nice cave. It looked so nice outside that he thought, "If were a dragon, I would live in this cave. I wish a dragon really lived there! I'm sure he does!" He decided to call for a dragon and cried out loudly "Hey, dragon! If you are there, go out and fight with me!"

A dragon really lived in the cave. At that time he was watching a video film and didn't want to go out. "I wish that noisy man would go away", thought the Dragon. The king cried "If you don't come out, I'll begin to throw stones into your cave!"

"If I were you, I wouldn't do it!”, roared the Dragon, "If you were cleverer, you wouldn't make me angry! I can breathe fire. I wish you would leave me alone!"

The king became afraid of the fire-breathing Dragon. He sat near the cave and began to cry, "Oh, poor, poor me! I wish I had never gone to fight with a dragon! I don't want to be roasted! I only want to become a hero and marry my princess! If I had found this dragon when he was small and couldn't breathe fire, I would have caught him and my love would have married me because I would have become a hero! But what shall I do now? And to tell the truth, I don't really want to kill dragons."

The Dragon heard these words. Actually, he was a kind Dragon. You know, if people don't make dragons angry, they are usually very nice creatures. He went out of his cave and told the king that he would help him. After some time he gave the king a note. It said, "Dear Beautiful Princess!

This king is really a hero! If he hadn't broken his sword in the fight with me, he would have killed me, but now we are friends. He really loves you and wants to marry you very much. If I were you, I would give him a chance. I wish you to be happy!

Love, Dragon ..         

P.S. If I have some free time, I will come to your wedding. And you may visit me any time you like.

D."

So the king married the Beautiful Princess, they often visited the Dragon in his cave and watched the newest video films.

III. Now answer my questions:

  1. Do you like to eat?
  2. What food do you prefer?
  3. What food would you eat if you were a vegetarian?

-lived in Australia?

-were an aborigine?

-found yourself on an uninhabited island?

-lived near the shores of the Arctic Ocean?

- in the Sahara desert?

4. What food would you eat if you went to an Italian (Japanese) restaurant?

Now we shall speak about cooking. Let’s remember what is the most popular salad that Russian people cook during different holidays? To my mind it’s oliviye. What would be the stages in making salad oliviye? Before we speak about this recipe, we will remember the words that can help you. Firstly repeat the adjectives. Food can be: tasty, tasteless, raw, fried, boiled, baked, grilled, delicious, fresh, rotten, sweet, salty, sour, bitter. How can we prepare it: boil, fry, bake, cook, grill, roast, cut, serve, chop, divide, eat. What utensils we use: a pan, a saucepan, a plate, a cup, a glass, a fork, a spoon, a knife, a plate, a bowl. What we can do with food: cut, chew, swallow, taste, enjoy, lick.

So, to make oliviye first I would boil some eggs and potatoes. What would be the next stage in making it?

Now tell us what your favourite dish is and give a recipe how to make it.

IV. Now let’s have some rest and fun and make up some “crazy” sentences. The first group of pupils are going to make the first part of If sentences second conditional according to the topic “Food” and the second group the main part. Of course some of them will not have sense when they are combined and may be funny.  

V. Now we shall discuss some controversial problems according to the topic “Food”. Tell me what things are necessary for people to live? (water, food, sleep)
Why do you think these things are so important? (We can’t get energy without them.)
Do you think that all food is healthy? I want you to look at the screen and watch some video. (Beauty food)

Nowadays fast food is very popular among teenagers. However, many experts consider fast food harmful to our health. What can you say for and against fast food? What do you prefer?

People have been trying to look beautiful for centuries. They do it by going in for sports, keeping to different diets. They believe that the only way to lose weight is following a special diet. However, doctors consider dieting harmful to our health. What can you say for and against following a diet? Which way of keeping fit do you prefer?

Many people say “You are what you eat” and now I want you to watch some video material which gives you advice how to look beautiful, because food you eat influences your appearance greatly. After watching this video say what people should eat to look beautiful.

One more problem we are going to discuss now is genetically modified food. (video)

Genetically modified foods have caused an enormous amount of debate, scientific discussion, and media coverage. As well as benefits, a variety of ecological and human health concerns come with the new advances made possible by genetic modification.

What can you say for and against the development of genetically modified food?

VI. Every nation has traditional dishes. What are the traditional dishes in our country? (watch a video)

Match the Russian names of dishes with their descriptions Your hometask will be to write about your favourite dish or a traditional dish of your country. Write a recipe. Begin with:

One of our local national dishes is called … It is rather (tasty, spicy, sweet…) It is made from…To cook it first take some… (examples)

VII. Итог урока. So all living things need food to sustain life. I like to eat tasty food and can’t live without it and I think so do you. But when we eat we should think about our health and try to make healthy food tasty for us.

And at the end of our lesson let me monitor your progress and reward your efforts...
